Season 27 “Dancing With the Stars” alum Joe Amabile recalled a scary incident when a move with his then-pro partner Jenna Johnson nearly went horribly wrong.
“Remember when I almost snapped your neck?” Amabile said on the December 17 episode of the “Bachelor Happy Hour” podcast. “I almost killed you. I swear on my life, she almost died. It was insane,” he added.
The mistake happened during the duo’s Argentine tango on Halloween week.
“Honestly, Joe, that was your best dance, and it was the ending move. We had just one lift. He put his arm in the wrong spot. I was going to do a backflip. I don’t know how I did that,” Johnson said. Some quick thinking saved Johnson from a potentially serious head injury. She completed a front flip and the two made it work.
“We survived,” she said.
Johnson and Amabile finished the season in 8th place.
Joe Amabile Joked About Jenna Johnson Wanting to Dance With a Football Player
In the midst of season 33, Johnson talked about being paired with “Bachelor” lead Joey Graziadei. While she really loved their partnership, Johnson admitted that she was hoping to dance with a football player this season.
On the September 26, 2024, episode of the “Almost Famous” podcast, Johnson candidly shared her thoughts.
“Joey knows this, I’ve been honest with him. I think people think that we know who we’re gonna have for a little bit, that’s not the case. They really like to make it a secret so it’s an authentic reaction,” she said.
“I was a little sad because I’ve been promised — not promised — but I’ve never had a football player. Through my time on the show I’ve never had a football player,” she admitted.
Things worked out for Johnson — who ended up winning the Mirrorball Trophy alongside Graziadei. However, Amabile believes he knows why Johnson wants to dance with a super strong athlete — and he says it’s due to what happened on season 27.
“This is why she wants a football player. She’s like, ‘they would never do that to me’,” Amabile joked on the “Bachelor Happy Hour” podcast.
Jenna Johnson Expressed an Interest in Dancing With Jason Kelce
Johnson had an incredible season 33 — but she’s probably still really hoping to dance with a football player at some point.
During a Q&A on her Instagram Stories back in March, Johnson was asked who she’d like to be partnered with for season 33.
“I’m going to say Jason Kelce. He just retired, so I think it’d be perfect timing, plus, I think he would be hilarious and so much fun to work with,” she answered.
Kelce wasn’t on the show’s short list, however. Instead, production tapped former New England Patriots player Danny Amendola. He made it to the finals alongside Witney Carson, finishing in 5th place.
