Many “Dancing With the Stars” fans were shocked after Derek Hough shared a fun fact about him and his sister, Julianne Hough.
On December 4, the DWTS judge took to Instagram to share that he and his sister starred in the first “Harry Potter” film. While some fans were aware of this, others had no idea that the brother-sister duo served as extras in the popular movie.
“Did you know @juleshough and I were in the first Harry Potter film?” Hough asked his fans. “We spent three months in the Great Hall, the Forbidden Forest, and even the Quidditch pitch! It was incredible to be part of such a historic moment. And I may have ‘accidentally’ taken a Ravenclaw robe, scarf, tie, and a few pieces of silverware from set… but shh, don’t tell! Just a little holiday magic and nostalgia to share with you all. Happy holidays,” his Instagram caption read in full.
“Also , I stood in for Draco Malfoy to set up shots. PPPPPOTTER,” Hough added in the comments.
While some longtime Hough fans may have known that he was in the movie, others were completely surprised to see Julianne Hough in the stands at a Quidditch game.
Dozens of Fans Reacted to Derek Hough’s ‘Harry Potter’ Post
Shortly after Hough shared his post, dozens of fans took to the comments section to react — many expressing their genuine surprise.
“WHAT! How did I not recognize Julianne in that scene,” one person wrote.
“Whaaattt! Thats awesome!” someone else added.
“No way how did I miss that,” a third comment read.
“Definitely thought this was a joke. So I just went to these clips. Oh em gee! That’s so cool!!” a fourth Instagram user said.
“Freaking GASP,” read a fifth comment.
Derek Hough Previously Opened Up About His Experience on the ‘Harry Potter’ Set
Back in 2018, Hough spoke with Entertainment Weekly about his time on the “Harry Potter” set.
“We were at Pinewood Studios for three months. We attended school in these trailers, and then we just messed around and got into trouble. We’d have dance-offs during breaks in our full robes. We’d battle it out in between takes! I was a Ravenclaw,” he told the outlet.
“Since I was a blond kid, I would be a stand-in for Draco Malfoy. That was my claim to fame! Being young, it was pretty cool to see behind the scenes, but we’d also be there all day, so we’d get hungry. In the Great Hall they had all of that food, so we would try to eat it but then realize, ‘Oh, wait, it’s plastic.’ We were pretty disappointed,” he continued.
“There’s a specific scene where Hermione is leaving for Christmas while carrying her suitcase. We pass in the hallway. I was holding an owl. That’s my big moment. I’m right in the camera’s viewpoint, so every time you look at Hermione, you can see me, clear as day,” he added.
In the same interview, Hough revealed that his sister actually had a crush on Daniel Radcliffe, who played the role of Harry Potter.
“She wrote him a love letter and sent him a teddy bear. They were like 12 years old,” he said.
