Robert Irwin Shares Update on Bindi Irwin’s Health Following Emergency Surgery

The annual Steve Irwin Gala was held on May 10 in Las Vegas, but two of the late conservationist’s family members were notably absent: Bindi Irwin and her mother, Terri Irwin. Robert Irwin was in attendance, and he confirmed that his sister was undergoing surgery for a ruptured appendix.

“She’s going to be OK, but surgery — out of all the things we were ready for, that was not one of them,” Robert told People. Despite Bindi’s pain, he also revealed that she had planned to attend the gala. “She came to Las Vegas and was ready to come to the gala, put on a brave face in a lot of discomfort and a lot of pain and said, ‘Nope, I’m just going to tough it out, I’m going to go for it,'” Robert told People. “But the surgeon said, ‘No, your appendix is going. That thing’s gotta come out.’ Health has to come first.”

Robert Irwin Praises His Sister for Being an Advocate for Women’s Health

Robert briefly mentioned his sister’s health struggles, saying, “She’s just come out the other side of endometriosis and now the appendix goes. Health is so important — it really is.” He praised her as “an incredible advocate for women’s health.”

Fans of Bindi will recall that she has decided to discuss how endometriosis has impacted her life. In an Instagram post from May 2023, she showed herself lying in a hospital bed. In a lengthy caption, she discussed why she chose to publicly share her journey in the hopes of helping other women who may find themselves in similar positions.

“For 10yrs I’ve struggled with insurmountable fatigue, pain & nausea,” she wrote. “Trying to remain a positive person & hide the pain has been a very long road. These last 10yrs have included many tests, doctors visits, scans, etc.” She explained in her caption how medical professionals had told her to deal with the intense discomfort. Still, she continued trying to search for a solution to the indescribable pain she was in, ultimately undergoing surgery for endometriosis.

At the time, fans praised Bindi, and the Instagram comment section was filled with an outpouring of love and over 1 million likes.

Despite Bindi and Terri’s inability to attend the Steve Irwin Gala, it was a memorable event. Robert shared multiple photos and videos from the evening on his Instagram account, including a hilarious video of him posing with a fake crocodile on the khaki carpet.

In the short clip, Robert pretends to be taking a snooze on the croc. “When does everyone show up again?” he asks the camera, before closing his eyes. Fans reacted to Robert’s playful post and praised him for his great sense of humor. “Comedic genius – love him,” a comment reads. “Hahaha! Omg this is great,” another fan wrote. He has also been compared to his father, who was loved by people worldwide. “So gorgeous inside and out just like your father,” a comment states.
