Zach Top has become wildly successful in the early stages of his career, but even he gets star-struck sometimes. In a recent appearance on the Bussin’ With The Boys podcast, the singer revealed what it’s really like to meet some of the legends of country music.
“I’m an idiot when I get around [them],” Top said, referring to how he feels when he runs into singers like Alan Jackson or George Strait. “I don’t know what to say to these guys,” Top later shared. “You know, it’s kind of like I wish I could just be cool and just have a normal conversation.” He may not feel like he can have a regular talk with these mega-stars, but Top certainly has some fond memories of meeting them.
Top Once Got to Play Backup Guitar for Strait

Not many singers can say they got to join Strait in making music, but Top had that honor. As he shared in his interview, Top got invited to play alongside the legendary crooner during a show at a golf tournament. “There’s a handful of different artists [at the show] and stuff, so he’ll let everybody get up and do a few songs, and he closes out the night and sings a little set,” Top explained. “This last year, I was getting off and he was like, ‘Man stay up here and play some with us.'”
Naturally, Top jumped at the chance to play with an artist that he has frequented listed among his biggest influences. “So I got to hold onto the guitar and play a little backup for George Strait,” he said. “Which is pretty dang cool.”
The Singer Made a Relatable Confession to Vince Gill

Getting to play guitar with Strait isn’t the only fun memory Top shared during his interview; he also made a very relatable confession to Vince Gill when they first met. “I met him out at the Opry, I don’t know, it’s been a couple years ago now I guess,” Top explained. “I was like, ‘Man, there’s not many people left alive that would make me starstruck and act like an idiot, and you’re one of them. So I’m sorry in advance.'”
Of course, one of the prime examples of Top getting to rub elbows with country music royalty came earlier this year, when he joined Alan Jackson on his farewell tour. In a clip CMT shared, Top referred to the singer as “a big musical hero” of his.
