Willie Nelson Gets a TV Icon on Drums for Outlaw Music Festival

For country music legend Willie Nelson, 2025’s Outlaw Music Festival is truly a star-studded affair. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the tour, and Nelson has plenty of talented musicians by his side, including Bob Dylan and Sheryl Crow. However, Full House fans were in for a treat when the tour made a stop at the Hollywood Bowl: TV icon John Stamos played drums for that show.

On May 17, the beloved actor took to Instagram with a carousel post of the event, captioning it “Amazing night playing percussion with the great [Willie Nelson].” The post features plenty of fun backstage photos from the show, including one of Stamos and Nelson posing together. Fans can also enjoy watching videos of Stamos showing off his skills on stage behind Nelson and other performers.

Fans Loved This Unexpected Pairing

Stamos getting into country music likely wasn’t something his fans expected, but they are nevertheless loving his choice to play with Nelson. Netizens flooded the comments section of Stamos’ post with praise and adoration. “This is awesome. Willie is the man who made me like country. You’re cool, too,” one fan lightheartedly wrote.

Another fan called the experience of playing with a legendary artist like Nelson “A memory you’ll never forget.” Of course, it’s rare that Stamos escapes any situation without a reference to his fan-favorite “Full House” character, and the same is true for this event. “I LOVE YOU!!!!” one particularly enthusiastic fan wrote. “Uncle Jesse rocks.”

Nelson Isn’t the Only Musician Stamos has Played Drums With

Playing drums for the Willie Nelson is something any percussionist would love to cross off their bucket list. However, the country star isn’t the only musician Stamos has joined on stage. The “Full House” actor has also appeared alongside The Beach Boys, such as when he lent his voice and guitar skills to a show in 2018.

In a 2021 Howard Stern interview, Stamos revealed how he found himself supporting the ultra-famous band. “I’ve played drums since I was a kid,” the actor said. “And The Beach Boys were my idols.” Surprisingly, Stamos’ history of playing with the band goes back several decades. As he told Stern, he first got on stage with the band back in the ’80s, partially thanks to his “General Hospital” fame.

Stamos’ performance with Nelson was a memorable highlight for this year’s Outlaw Music Festival, but there are likely many more surprises in store for fans as the tour continues.
