Vince Gill and Amy Grant tied the knot back in 2000, cementing their place among the most beloved couples in country music. Twenty-five years later, they’re still going strong — but what’s their secret? As Gill shared with CMT, it’s surprisingly simple: be kind to each other.
In the April 2025 clip from a red carpet interview, CMT asked Gill and Grant if they had any advice for newlyweds. “Just be kind,” Gill said, without missing a beat. “I’d rather be kind than be right.” Grant instantly agreed. Given their long history, focusing on kindness has clearly worked for them.
Gill First Fell in Love With Grant’s Smile

In a 2024 interview with People, the couple opened up about some of the details of their romance, including their first encounter. They met in 1993, and Gill was struck by one of Grant’s features: her smile. “That’s all I can remember,” he admitted. “It was a staggering smile that just stopped me in my tracks.”
Grant’s smile clearly made a lasting impression, as Gill was still thinking about it after their first meeting. “I was writing songs with a buddy of mine, and he said, ‘What do you want to write about today?'” Gill recalled. “I said, ‘Let’s write a song about Amy Grant’s smile.'” From that conversation, Gill’s hit song, “Whenever You Come Around,” was born.
The Singer Said Their Daughter Helped Unite Their Blended Family

Gill and Grant both brought children from past relationships into their union, and they’ve been open about the challenges that entailed. As the couple shared with AARP in 2011, it was not smooth sailing at first. Grant’s children didn’t hide their resentment for Gill, and the singer had to tread carefully to find his place in this new family.
However, as Gill explained, the birth of their only shared child, Corrina, helped everyone turn over a new leaf. “[Corrina is] the glue of this whole family,” Gill said of his daughter, who was born the year after their wedding. “She bonded all of us in a blood way that really did connect us.” Since overcoming those initial hurdles, the couple have kept the harmony of their unique bond going both on and off stage.
