Vince Gill has performed on the stage of the Grand Ole Opry countless times, but perhaps no performance was more special than his show May 3.
That’s when Gill performed a duet with a 7-year-old named Everly Gill.
Everly is Vince’s granddaughter.
In an Instagram post by Everly’s mom and Vince’s daughter, Jenny Gill, the video shows Vince Gill telling the crowd, “Please welcome my oldest daughter Jenny and my granddaughter Everly” as the crowd goes wild.
The little girl walked out on stage with mom Jenny Gill, a talented singer herself who has performed on the Opry stage before. And without much fanfare, she and her mom began to sing as Vince Gill and the other musicians played along.
In the Instagram post, Jenny captions the video of her daughter singing on the Opry stage with, “Here she is! My little Opry star 🙂 I am so proud of my little Everly!!”
Everly Gill Makes Her Opry Debut Singing Vince Gill Song
With her mom holding the microphone and singing along, the 7-year-old sang “Jenny Dreamed of Trains.”
It’s a song Vince Gill co-wrote with Guy Clark about his daughter, Everly’s mom, about the innocence of her imagination. Vince first sang the song with Jenny in the 1980s when she was just five.
After the first few notes, the crowd started to hoot and holler, and Everly got a big smile on her face and started to relax into the song.
In another post on her Instagram account, Jenny Gill posted a picture shot from behind of the mother and daughter walking out on stage. In the caption, she wrote that the special night was also her birthday, saying, “today was the bestest birthday. Looking forward to level 43.”
In another post, Jenny made it clear that her daughter’s Opry debut wasn’t planned. She wrote, “A certain 7 year old just made her Grand Ole Opry Debut. We didn’t plan for it but it happened and she nailed every single note. It was so incredibly special. I’m so proud of my little Everly.”
Grandpa Vince Gill Launches Solo Tour
While Vince Gill has spent the past eight years touring the country with “The Eagles,” he’s stepping away from that collaboration this summer to go on a solo tour to celebrate his 50th anniversary performing.
In a press release, Gill says, “I left home 50 years ago to try and become an accomplished musician and perform in front of whoever would show up. All these years later, it feels as special today as it ever did.”
His tour will run through most of the summer, coming full circle to wrap up in August with four nights on the stage at the Ryman Auditorium, the former and still summer home of the Grand Ole Opry.
You can find tour dates and tickets here.
Gill will also perform in a Las Vegas residency at The Sphere in the fall, before returning to the Ryman where he and wife Amy Grant put on “Christmas at the Ryman” each year.
