Music careers can be wildly unpredictable, and building a lasting legacy is rare. Country music icon Trisha Yearwood enjoyed early success with “She’s In Love With The Boy,” setting her on the path to stardom. However, the song’s popularity made her nervous about one big thing: becoming a one-hit wonder.
“I had watched my heroes like Reba McEntire… have several albums come out before ‘the big song’ or whatever,” Yearwood told CMT, referring to how long it takes some artists to achieve a hit single. She explained that she never expected “She’s in Love With The Boy” to reach such stratospheric heights, and it left her anxious about the future. “And then I was really nervous that I would become a trivia question, you know? ‘Who had the number one song… and then was never heard from again?'” Luckily for Yearwood, her first hit single was just the beginning.
The Singer Was Still in Her 20s When She Scored Her First #1

Yearwood’s fear of becoming just another music trivia definitely made sense for her age. When “She’s in Love With The Boy” sailed to the top of the Billboard country singles chart in 1991, Yearwood was only in her late 20s. That left the singer with decades’ worth of a potential career — or decades of one-hit wonder status if her fear came true.
Just a few years later, lightning struck twice. Yearwood’s “Thinkin’ About You” carved its own path up the Hot Country Songs chart and snagged the top spot. Building on her first single’s success removed any danger of Yearwood becoming just a flash in the pan. Instead, she continued to achieve career milestones, win awards, and build a loyal fan base for years to come.
Yearwood is Thankful For Her Longevity in Country Music

Yearwood told CMT that she’s thankful her fear didn’t come true. “I feel so blessed to be still sitting here,” she said. Although she hasn’t released new music as frequently over the last decade, Yearwood is embarking on a new journey in 2025. Her newest album, “The Mirror,” will officially hit the airwaves on July 18.
However, this isn’t just any album; it’s the first time Yearwood has tried her hand at co-writing songs. “Somebody told me I wasn’t a songwriter,” the singer shared in a recent Instagram Reel of an early experience in music. Clearly, she’s no longer letting what someone else says about her songwriting skills hold her back.
