Tim McGraw Shares The Surprising Truth About His Current Challenges

Seasoned performers like Tim McGraw make live shows look effortless. However, it’s not uncommon for singers to struggle behind the scenes. In a recent interview with Bobby Bones, the country music legend revealed a surprising truth about his voice that makes performing some of his songs extra challenging.

“I think people don’t realize I sing as high as I do because my voice is kind of thick,” McGraw said. As he went on to explain, this unexpected fact can throw other artists for a loop if they come on stage to sing with him. “They come on stage and they think, ‘Oh, I know that song.’ And they’ll go out and start singing it, and go ‘Whoa, this is way higher than I realized it was,'” the singer said.

McGraw Says Some Songs Can Only Be Performed “Once a Month”

Some of McGraw’s songs are hard for others to perform, but they also give the singer himself a run for his money. When asked if he’s ever needed to make key changes for some of his biggest hits, McGraw explained that, while he hasn’t so far, it may be necessary in the future. “There’s a few songs that are pushing the envelope right now,” he said.

Of course, some songs are harder to sing than others. “Standing Room Only,” McGraw said when asked which song is the toughest. “That single’s one that’s tough to sing. There’s some really high spots in it.” He went on to say that some songs are so difficult that he can only perform them occasionally. “There’s been a few songs that I’ve really loved that I could probably only pull off like, once a month.”

The Singer Recently Returned to Live Performing

McGraw has suffered through multiple health issues in recent years, and even had to cancel his tour in June 2024 as a result. However, this summer saw him back in action with a return to live performances. The singer took the stage at the Music City Rodeo in Nashville, and fans were undoubtedly thrilled to see him make a comeback.

However, the singer has been very open about how his health issues impact his performances. “Everything is intentional,” he told Tracy Lawrence on TL’s Roadhouse. “I can’t move quickly, like there’s no like turning real quick to do something.” Although he has also said that his physical limitations could lead to his retirement, McGraw appears to be staying the country course for now.
