Tim McGraw Cancels Concert Due to Surgery

Country great Tim McGraw has been forced to pull out of a concert because of continuing problems with his back.

The “Live Like You Were Dying” singer was set to headline the inaugural Professional Bull Riders (PBR) “Last Cowboy Standing” competition on July 21 in Fort Collins, Colorado, according to a press release. But a post on PBR’s Instagram account now says country group Cross Canadian Ragweed will perform in his place.

The post reads, “Cross Canadian Ragweed will step in for Tim McGraw as he recovers from back surgery to open the Last Cowboy Standing Show on July 21 in Fort Collins — and we couldn’t be more thrilled.”

The post also states, “We’re sending our very best to Tim for a quick recovery and hope to see him at a future PBR event.”

Tim McGraw Has Gone Through Multiple Surgeries in Health Battle

While we don’t know when the back surgery the statement refers to happened, a joint statement from Colorado State University and PBR states it was “recent.”

If the surgery is a new one, it will be the sixth surgery Tim McGraw has undergone in the past year.

In May, McGraw was a guest on “The Bobby Bones Show,” where he told Bones that he has had five surgeries in the past “6 to 8 months” including three back surgeries and two total knee replacements.

“I’m on the upswing now,” he told the host of his recovery process. “You know, some mornings are good, some morning it takes a little while, but it’s getting there.”

“I’ve done a lot of rehab, a lot of P-T [physical therapy] and now I’m slowly getting back to a routine, very light, but you know, working my way up to it,” said McGraw.

“Can you get back to 100%?” asked Bones. “Hopefully close, hopefully close,” replied the singer. “Hopefully 100%, but we’ll see.”

Tim McGraw Returned to Performing May 31 at Music City Rodeo

Tim McGraw recently returned to performing, headlining the Music City Rodeo in Nashville, Tennessee May 31.

McGraw is a co-founder of the Music City Rodeo, which was the city’s first professional rodeo. He also served as Grand Marshal.

Tim posted an Instagram video from a rehearsal ahead of that performance saying, “We’re ready, trust me, we’re ready!”

Faith Hill Has Helped Tim McGraw Stay Positive in Health Crisis

But the singer hasn’t always felt so optimistic in the midst of his ongoing health battle.

On Tracy Lawrence’s “TL’s Road House” podcast, Tim McGraw told his longtime friend, “I can tell you that after double knee replacements and three back surgeries and now a torn rotator cuff and a ruptured disc, all the things that are going on, there were times this year that I thought this might be it. This might be time to hang it up.”

But Tim’s wife of almost 30 years, Faith Hill, has been instrumental in keeping Tim positive and focused on recovery.

“Faith has been an amazing help at keeping his mindset positive,” a source told Closer. “She’s always so good at reminding him to focus on all he has to be grateful for, that has been huge for him as he navigates this.”

For now, Tim McGraw seems to be focused on recovery, which he says takes a lot of work.

“I can’t move quickly, there’s no turning real quick to do something,” he told Tracy Lawrence. “Everything has to be very intentional; everything that I do has to be very methodical. I have to do cold plunges, I have to do infrared saunas. I have to do massages.”
