When Randy Travis suffered a debilitating stroke in 2013, it put an end to his music career as he had always known it. However, the Country Music Hall of Fame inductee forged ahead, rebuilding a new chapter for himself on his road to recovery. Sadly, the aphasia he suffers from post-stroke has made it impossible for him to sing as he once did. Nevertheless, fans are still getting to enjoy a new Randy Travis tune in 2025 thanks to AI.
As a CBS Sunday Mornings segment explained, the AI-generated music was made possible with the help of fellow country singer James Dupré and stripped-down vocal tracks from some of Travis’ biggest hits. After plugging these components into an AI model, the end result was a beautiful meeting of music and technology that has given Travis a new way to do what he loves.
The Singer’s AI-Fueled Return to Music Started in 2024

Surprisingly, “Horses In Heaven” isn’t Travis’ first AI-assisted song. He actually released another single, “Where That Came From,” in 2024. In an interview with Garden & Gun, Travis’ wife, Mary Davis, shared some details about how the song came to be, expanding on the CBS Sunday Morning segment.
“Kyle Lehning, Randy’s longtime producer, sent the raw vocals of about forty-five of Randy’s songs to London, where they were put into the model using a vocal line provided by country music singer James Dupré. They were able to pick the voice stems of Randy’s songs and lay them over the vocal line.”
The incredible process was far more complex than people might expect, as Davis shared. “In the time most people make an album, we did one song.” However, the couple jumped at the chance to help Travis make music again. “When we were approached by Cris Lacy at Warner about it, it was exciting. I wanted to hear that voice more than anything—I have for twelve years now.”
Travis Has His Wife by His Side on The ‘More Life Tour’

Perhaps even more amazing than the fact that Travis has found a way to keep making music is his presence on the “More Life Tour,” a special concert series that got its start in 2024. It’s not your average concert, of course, since Travis isn’t able to sing more than a few words at a time. However, with the help of his original touring band and Dupré, the country crooner is still able to join fans in celebrating his impressive musical catalog. Due to the tour’s popularity, Travis’ official website announced new 2025 tour dates, running all the way until late November.
The tour is also a family affair, as Travis’ wife appears by his side on stage. She has been a permanent fixture by her husband’s side in the years since his stroke, both during his initial recovery and in public appearances since. As People reported, the couple knew each other for three decades before tying the knot in 2015.
