Morgan Wallen is the hottest thing in country music right now, breaking records and soon filling up massive stadiums on his “I’m the Problem Tour,” which launches June 20.
But fans got a rare chance to see him in a much more intimate setting when he made a surprise appearance at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium to perform at Darius Rucker’s annual “Darius & Friends” benefit show June 2.
According to The Tennessean, Wallen came out on stage toward the end of the evening. He performed two songs, including “20 Cigarettes,” a track on his new “I’m the Problem” album.
He also played fan-favorite “My Hometown,” grabbing a guitar and saying, “I play this one whenever I have a guitar in my hand.”
Quick-thinking fans recorded the surprise performance on their phones.
Morgan Wallen Wasn’t the Only Surprise Guest at Benefit
This was the 16th year Darius Rucker hosted his “Darius & Friends” benefit to raise money for St Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Over the years, he’s had some big name surprise guests. In a post on his Instagram account, Rucker showed a carousel of photos of past years’ surprise artists, including Hardy, the late Charlie Pride, the late Kenny Rogers, Clint Black, Little Big Town, Sheryl Crow and many others.
And Morgan Wallen was the only surprise for fans at this year’s concert.
Singer and American Idol judge Luke Bryan took a break from his “A Country Song Came On” Tour to take the stage and treat fans to hits like “Play it Again” and “Huntin’, Fishin’ and Lovin’ Every Day.”
Other performers included Tyler Braden, Kashus Culpepper, Lanie Gardner and Austin Williams.
The yearly concert has raised more than $4.3 million for St. Jude kids to date.
Morgan Wallen About to Launch World Tour
Morgan Wallen will soon have time for little besides performing.
The hitmaker will launch a tour to support his new album starting June 20.
The tour comes with a lot of star power from Wallen’s famous friends. Various stops will feature a rotating lineup of celebrity guests including Brooks & Dunn, Miranda Lambert, Thomas Rhett and Koe Wetzel.

And like Darius Rucker, he’ll be raising money for a cause as well. A portion of every ticket will go to the Morgan Wallen Foundation (MWF), which supports youth programs that focus on sports and music.
