Morgan Wallen Stuns Tom Brady With the Surprising Story of His First Shot at Fame

Country music star Morgan Wallen has been breaking records and climbing the charts for the last few years, but his meteoric rise didn’t happen overnight. Many may assume that his Season 6 appearance on “The Voice” was his first shot at fame, but as the singer told golf buddy Tom Brady last week, his path to stardom actually could have started much earlier.

In a YouTube video Brady posted, Wallen revealed that he began singing in his local church at a very young age.  “I started singing in church when I was 3 years old,” the singer told Brady. “My dad was a pastor, so my mom just recognized early on that I had a love for it.” However, Wallen’s early start in singing wasn’t the most surprising detail the singer shared. “I was offered a southern gospel record contract when I was 7 years old,” he said, catching Brady off guard.

Wallen Says His Mom Wanted Him to Have a Normal Childhood

Of course, the gospel record deal never came to pass, and Wallen told Brady it was for a very good reason. “My mom was like, ‘Nah I want him to be a kid,'” the singer explained. Even without taking this early chance to join the music industry, the “I’m The Problem” singer said music was still a big part of his childhood, including learning to play an instrument. “When I was five, I wanted a violin for Christmas. And then I started learning it.”

However, after turning down the record contract, Wallen says he also got very involved in another activity he loves: baseball. As he explained to Brady, that passion eventually grew into something more. “By the time I turned 12, I was doing, you know, travel ball, playing 100-something games a year, going all over the place.” Nevertheless, a career in baseball wasn’t meant to be, and the singer eventually found his way back to music.

The Singer is Eager to Get Back to Touring

It’s no secret that Wallen enjoys golf, but he told Brady that he’s also eager to be touring again. When the former quarterback asked if Wallen was excited to be going back “on the road,” the singer replied, “Man I’m very excited. I wasn’t ready until my album was done, obviously. But now that it’s done, got something else to look forward to.”

Most of all, the singer said he was looking forward to seeing how fans react to “I’m The Problem.” “Hopefully they like all of it,” he said. “Three different styles…subdivision of country, I guess.” Based on how the 37-track album has performed on the charts so far, fans are likely to respond well to live performances this summer.
