Heartfelt lyrics and Megan Moroney’s soulful voice were on full display in a video the country singer shared on Instagram as she sang an unreleased song. Moroney shared the song is dedicated to her niece.
“Wrote this song with my niece in mind,” she shared in the video’s caption. “When she was born I remember being in awe of how sweet and perfect she was and I (in true emo cowgirl fashion) was sad knowing that when she grows up the world may be cruel to her sometimes… inevitably she’ll get her feelings hurt by friends or her heart broken or just have bad days and I wanted her to be able to have a song to listen to when and if she ever needs it.”
How Fans are Connecting with the Lyrics
In true Moroney fashion, the descriptive lyrics tug at fans’ heartstrings.
“You’re standing at your bathroom mirror / Cryin’ ‘What did I do?’ tears / Your friends are out and you’re right here / There’s a party, you didn’t know / You just found out from your phone / Did they not want you to go?/Oh yeah, you feel that twisting knife / Oh I know it ain’t right /Fires burn up canyons / A hurricane can wreck a beach / Words can make a mockingbird forget they’re born to sing / Lies can break a fragile heart / And doubt can crush your dreams / But honey, just take it from me / The world is hard on beautiful things”
Fans quickly flooded the comments section and shared their love for the unreleased song.
“I’m sobbing…a girls girl Megan,” one fan commented. “We are so lucky to have you and your incredible talent.”
Another fan shared how she resonated with the feeling Moroney sang about: feeling sad knowing one can’t protect a baby from how cruel some people can be.
“This is exactly what I felt when both my girls were born,” another fan commented. “Still feel this way as one is starting kindergarten and the other just turned one. What a beautiful song and a beautiful way to show these feelings.”
“You Had To Be There” was a Gift for Kenny Chesney
Although Moroney shared an unreleased song, the singer recently released her latest single, “You Had To Be There”, featuring Kenny Chesney. The track was dedicated to Chesney who she toured with last summer.
The “Am I Okay?” singer shared in an Instagram caption she gifted the song to Chesney for Christmas and “thankfully he loved it.”
