Country music fans witnessed a memorable moment at the 2025 Boston Calling Music Festival! Luke Combs decided to create an epic viral duet by bringing out Megan Moroney onstage at the Harvard Athletic Complex in Cambridge, Massachusetts, for a surprise. The two artists joined forces once again to perform Combs’ chart-topping hit “Beer Never Broke My Heart.”
The moment marked a full-circle experience for Moroney, who is currently on a sky high. The newcomer had originally appeared as an extra in the song’s 2019 music video. At the time, she was still making one of her earliest appearances in the country music scene.
Surprise Duet Stuns Music Fans
Combs and Moroney co-headlined the festival’s opening night on May 23, 2025. Together and separately, they delivered a high-energy performance that left the crowd buzzing. The chemistry between the two artists was undeniable, as fans sang along as loudly as they could, trying to overpower Combs’ vocals. The duet instantly became a standout moment from the evening.
Combs later shared a video of the performance to Instagram, captioning it, “Megan was in the ‘Beer Never Broke My Heart’ music video six years ago so when I saw we were playing the same festival I had to ask her to sing it with me. Thanks for jumping in @megmoroney.”
Reaction poured in from fans and fellow artists alike, excited about the moment. Combs’ wife, Nicole, commented, “Howww was that 6 years ago?? 🔥” while one fan added, “BEST SURPRISE EVER. I was hoping you would bring her out for this!!!!!”
The three-day festival also featured a genre-spanning lineup that included Sheryl Crow, T-Pain, TLC, Fall Out Boy, Avril Lavigne, Dave Matthews Band, and Vampire Weekend.
Megan Moroney Is Just Getting Started
Since her cameo in Combs’ video, Moroney’s career has taken off quickly. She released her debut single, “Wonder,” in 2021 and earned widespread recognition in the music world with the breakout hit “Tennessee Orange.” The song was co-nominated for Song of the Year at the 57th Annual CMA Awards, cementing her place among country music’s rising stars.
For Combs, the duet was a chance to revisit one of his most beloved tracks with a fresh twist. The song was part of his second studio album, “What You See Is What You Get,” and was his sixth single release to country radio.
Outside of the festival, Combs has continued making genre-strucking waves. He recently released his new single, “WHY,” a soul-stirring duet with Jon Bellion. The track is featured on Bellion’s forthcoming album “FATHER FIGURE” and highlights the emotional vocal range of both artists.
“I’ve been a massive Jon Bellion fan for years,” Combs shared. “He texted me the song ‘WHY’ and I loved it. With me having two sons of my own and knowing how much I love them and how big of a role they play in my ‘why,’ it was a no-brainer.”
