Luke Combs Reveals Garth Brooks’ Incredible $90K Gift That Shocked Him

Luke Combs has recently shared an astonishing story about receiving an unexpected $90,000 gift from country music legend Garth Brooks. The music star revealed the generous gesture that left him completely speechless and confused about the reasoning behind such an extravagant present.

The 35-year-old “Back in the Saddle” singer recounted the incredible moment during his appearance on the Monday, August 18 episode of Dax Shepard’s “Armchair Expert” podcast, and described how the surprise unfolded at his home during what seemed like an ordinary evening.

A Case of Mistaken Identity

The story began during Christmas time when Combs was at home feeding his son dinner while his wife was out. Looking out the window, he noticed what appeared to be his manager’s vehicle pulling into the driveway.

“This was last Christmas. My wife was out somewhere, and I was feeding my son at the dinner table in our house,” Combs explained. “I’m like, ‘Man, why is my manager pulling up in his Bronco?'”

The confusion deepened when his manager walked in and handed him car keys. Brooks had purchased Combs a Ford Bronco Raptor in the exact same “space blue” color that his manager drove, creating the perfect setup for bewilderment.

“He comes in and throws me the keys to this thing, and I’m like, ‘Are you giving me your car, dude?'” Combs remembered. “He’s like, ‘No, man, Garth bought you this.'”

The generous gesture left Combs completely baffled, especially since he and Brooks didn’t have a close personal relationship at the time. “I’m like, ‘What’s … [this is a present] for what? This is a $90,000 car, dude! What are you talking about?'” he recounted.

The Heartfelt Reason Behind the Gift

The mystery unraveled when Combs later spoke directly with Brooks over the phone. The country superstar revealed that he had ordered the vehicle a year earlier as a thank-you gift after Combs performed “The Beaches of Cheyenne” as a tribute at the 2022 Nashville Songwriters Awards Ceremony, where Brooks received the Kris Kristofferson Lifetime Achievement Award.

Brooks had been so moved by Combs’ performance that he posted on social media afterward, writing that he “never felt like a songwriter” until he heard the younger star sing “the sh&@t out of” “The Beaches of Cheyenne.”

Following the performance, Brooks contacted Combs’ manager to ask about appropriate thank-you gift ideas. When he learned that Combs enjoyed cars, Brooks decided to order the Bronco Raptor. However, the vehicle was delayed for an entire year, which explained why the gift arrived so long after the original performance.

During their phone conversation, Brooks explained his reasoning for the extravagant gesture. Combs recalled Brooks telling him, “You could’ve went out and booked your own show that night, made this much money or whatever.”

“I was just kind of floored by that, to be honest,” Combs admitted about Brooks’ thoughtfulness and generosity.

One remaining mystery surrounds whether other performers from that evening received similar gifts. Combs estimated that approximately eight artists performed tributes to Brooks that night, but he remains uncertain whether they all received comparably generous presents from the country legend.
