Lauren Alaina is loving mom life, and letting fans in on how newborn daughter Beni Doll Arnold got her precious and unusual name.
In a new Instagram post, Lauren and husband Cam Arnold explained to fans just exactly how Beni got her unique name.
In the video, Lauren says, “This is Beni Doll Arnold, our little girl. We want to tell you about her name. We each picked a name. I picked her first name, which is Beni. She’s named after two people in our family, two people who have passed away. She’s named after my grandfather. It was my mom’s dad, Papa Benny. He helped raise me, he taught me how to play basketball. He bought me my first karaoke machine. If he was alive, he would tell you that he’s the reason I got where I am because he bought me that karaoke machine. He was very proud of that.”
Lauren Alaina Says Baby’s Name Was a Message From Heaven
Lauren Alaina told followers that she once met a girl named Beni and took note of the spelling. “It wasn’t even our number one name at first, but we were tossing out different names and Beni came up and we were trying to figure out how to spell it because traditionally it’s a boy’s name, but we knew we wanted to name her that. And Cameron said, ‘well, can we do it with an I or something to make it girlier for her?’ And I told him about the girl that I had seen who spelled it B-E-N-I. And he told me he loved that.”
Once they decided on the spelling, Lauren discovered something that sealed the deal. The name “Beni” means “crimson” in Japanese. This immediately made her think of the University of Alabama, whose football team is known as the “Crimson Tide.”
“My dad passed away last year, and it’s been really hard for me this whole journey not having him and having her. And my dad was a huge Alabama fan. So, the fact that Beni in Japanese meets Crimson, I feel like my dad said, ‘roll tide’ from heaven and told us how to spell it,” she told her followers.
Cam Arnold Picked Daughter’s Middle Name for Beloved Aunt
Lauren Alaina’s husband Cam Arnold got to pick his daughter’s middle name and picked “Doll” for his aunt, Lucy Doll Arnold.
“She was born on our family farm where my parents live now. It’s like 175-year-old home. Been in the family for over 200 years and she’s just been a big part of our family, and she’s never had kids, so it was just a little nod to keep her name in the family and pass it along.”
He also allowed that it’s a “pretty cute name” while Alaina added, “We love it. She’s one of a kind.”
Lauren Alaina Has Kept a Sense of Humor While Sleep-Deprived
Since Beni was born June 11, Lauren has been transparent with fans about life with a newborn, including the sleep deprivation. One post shows the singer holding a two-week-old Beni sleeping in her arms as she lip syncs to Ke$ha’s “Your Love is My Drug.” In the background, Cam Arnold sings into what looks like part of a breast pump.
In the caption, Lauren writes, “When you’re triple feeding around the clock but you’re married to your best friend and making the best of it 🍼😅 But seriously, my husband is a champ.”
(Triple feeding is breast feeding the baby, then pumping milk, then feeding the baby a bottle every two to three hours. It is often used to increase milk supply and help the baby gain weight, according to UMC Rochester.)
In another post, she lip syncs to “no, no, we don’t wanna do that” while throwing baby bottles down. The caption explains, “The limit of bottles does not exist 🥲🍼”
