ACM Entertainer of the Year Lainey Wilson just dropped a bombshell about her upcoming wedding!
While the hitmaker could almost certainly have her pick of any country artist to entertain at her reception, she and fiance’ Devlin “Duck” Hodges won’t have country music at their wedding at all!
During an interview on “Taste of Country Nights,” Wilson revealed that the couple will be “going the jazz route.” Lainey says she’ll be looking to hire a jazz band or two for the festivities.
And while she hasn’t revealed a date for the “I Do’s,” she will say that if anyone is going to get emotional at the altar, it’s Duck. She admits she might shed a tear or two, but only if Duck tears up first.
But don’t expect waterworks from her dad, even on such an emotional day. “I ain’t seen that man cry once in my whole life,” the “Heart Like a Truck” singer said laughing.
Lainey Wilson’s Tour Has a One Month Gap
While Lainey Wilson hasn’t given any hits about when the big day will be (or whether or not she’ll be wearing her signature bell bottoms!), sharp-eyed fans have noticed a more than one-month gap in Lainey’s “Whirlwind World Tour” schedule this summer.
Lainey plays just two shows in July, on July 10 at the Ottawa Blues Fest and July 12 at the Cavendish Beach Music Festival on Prince Edward Island, Canada. Then the singer doesn’t have another tour stop scheduled until August 14 in Phoenix. Could she be trying to squeeze a wedding and honeymoon in-between shows?
In an April interview posted on TikTok by nc5nashville, Wilson said the couple hadn’t yet started planning the big day. “We really need to sit down and make that a priority. But I’m sure that it’ll be something that’s just very, very simple, you know?”
Lainey Wilson Spills Details on Romantic Proposal
While she may not be saying much about the particulars of her upcoming wedding, Lainey Wilson has been happy to share her romantic engagement story.
In that same TikTok video shared by Nashville television station WTVF, Wilson was asked about the former NFL player’s proposal and replied, “I got you girl, I’ll spill the tea.”
Wilson related, “So, I had talked myself into thinking he was going to do it that day. And then I called my sister. I said, ‘He’s going to propose to me today’ and she was like, ‘I gotta go,’ ” Wilson laughed.
The country singer explained that she and Hodges had been ”wanting to go see the George Jones estate” that a realtor friend had listed for sale.
“And then as we [pulled] up, I realized that there were different plans,” Wilson shared. “So, he had it all set up. He had the candles and the picture frames, and it could not have been more perfect.”
Lainey posted pictures of the romantic surprise on her Instagram account, showing the pair on the front steps of Jones’ house holding hands. A closeup reveals that Duck had decorated the step in front of the home’s door with pictures of the couple, candles and red roses.
In the Instagram post about the engagement, the series of photos ends with a video of Lainey walking down the steps of the George Jones house, pretending her left hand is too heavy to lift. She then flashes the beautiful engagement ring at the camera, laughs and runs away.
