Actor and country music star Lainey Wilson has become incredibly successful in the early stages of her career, but that doesn’t mean she’s immune to self-doubt. During an appearance on CBS Mornings this month, the singer revealed that, even with an upcoming film role and multiple awards to her name, she still struggles with imposter syndrome.
“At the end of the day, I think everybody is human, and I’ve absolutely dealt with it,” Wilson explained, referring to imposter syndrome. Despite how challenging those feelings can be, the singer has found a way to keep things in perspective. “You know what I’ve realized over the past year, especially, is that if you’re given a gift and you have worked toward receiving that gift,” she explained. “It’s important to accept it with an open heart and open mind.”
Wilson Says Her Fiance is Always in Her Corner

Earlier this year, Wilson announced her engagement to Devlin “Duck” Hodges, and fans were over the moon. As she shared during her CBS Mornings appearance, Hodges has been a huge source of support for her as her career continues to grow. “He’s the kind of dude that just, he high-fives me on the way in the door and on the way out,” Wilson said, listing her fiance among the “biggest cheerleaders” she has.
Wilson also noted that Hodges’ football career makes it easy for him to understand working toward a long-term goal. The singer then sweetly reiterated that she believes she’s found the right person. “He’s just a good dude,” she said. “So I had to kiss a bunch of frogs, but I finally found me a duck.”
The Singer Officially Released ‘Somewhere Over Laredo’

Fans were in love at first listen when Wilson teased “Somewhere Over Laredo” on Instagram earlier this month, and the singer officially released the song on May 23rd. She shared more about the story behind the song while speaking with CBS Mornings.
As Wilson explained, the frequent air travel required to be a touring singer provided inspiration for the song. “And you know, when you’re staring out the window, you get to just spend a little bit of time with yourself and reminisce and dream, talk to God, all of those things,” she said, referring to what goes through her mind when flying from city to city for shows.
Wilson also gave the song major praise: “I’m partial, but this is one of my favorite songs that I’ve ever written,” she said. Based on the response from fans so far, the track may be many Wilson-lovers favorite song of hers as well.
