Lainey Wilson Cast in First Universal Pictures Film

Lainey Wilson recently had a taste of acting when she made an appearance in the popular western TV drama “Yellowstone” and decided it wasn’t enough. Fans are thanking her for that!

The “Wait in the Truck” singer has decided to give acting another shot, and according to Variety, she’ll be starring on the big screen instead of the small screen. Wilson is set to join the Universal Pictures adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s “Reminders of Him.”

Wilson is Heading to The Big Screen

While her exact role hasn’t been fully revealed, we do know she is set to star in the film, which will premiere on Valentine’s Day 2026. It also stars Rudy Pankow, Maika Monroe, Tyrique Withers, Bradley Whitford, Nicholas Duvernay, and “Gilmore Girls” star Lauren Graham.

According to Goodreads, the novel follows Kenna Rowan, a young mother haunted by a tragic mistake. She returns to her hometown after five years in prison, desperate to reunite with her four-year-old daughter. However, the road to redemption proves more difficult than she imagined, as the people in her daughter’s life are unwilling to forgive her, no matter how much she strives to prove she’s changed. The only person still offering her a sliver of hope is Ledger Ward, a local bar owner with ties to Kenna’s daughter.

The film will be directed by Vanessa Caswill and produced by Lauren Levine, who, along with Hoover, will also produce via Heartbones Entertainment. Gina Mathers is also set to produce through her Little Engine Productions, with Robin Fisichella serving as executive producer.

‘Out of Oklahoma’

The book was originally published by Hoover in 2022, and became a bestseller, with over 6.5 million copies sold worldwide.

Although this is Wilson’s first time partnering with Universal for a film acting role, it’s not the first time she’s worked with the company. Earlier, she contributed her song “Out of Oklahoma” to the “Twisters” film album, which also featured country superstars like Luke Combs. The song was nominated for several awards, and the album reached number one on the Billboard Country charts and earned a Grammy nomination.

Wilson recently made waves after celebrating her friendship and collaboration with country artist HARDY. The country-rock star made his Grand Ole Opry debut on April 29, performing their hit “Wait in the Truck.” Although Wilson wasn’t able to attend the event, she sent a heartwarming message to the singer, saying, “HARDY, HARDY, HARDY, my brother from another mother. I cannot believe they are letting you play the Opry stage! I am so excited for you. I wish I could be there, but I just hope you soak it up and stand in that circle knowing you deserve to be there. I love you so much.”

Could it be because she’s busy filming?
