Some stars love to gush about their spouses, while others prefer to keep their private lives private. Country music star Keith Urban appears to fall into that second camp, which he demonstrated in a recent radio interview. The singer called into an Australian radio station, Mix 102.3, ahead of bringing his High and Alive tour to the continent this summer. The interview started out well, but it quickly went downhill when the conversation turned to Nicole Kidman.
As the New York Post reported, hosts Hayley Pearson and Max Burford moved the interview into a “Wall of Truth” segment and attempted to learn Urban’s feelings about Kidman taking part in intimate film scenes. Instead of answering the question, or even deflecting it, the singer set an unmistakable boundary by hanging up on the hosts — live on air.
The Singer’s Response Left The Radio Hosts Stunned

Urban’s abrupt departure from the call left Pearson and Burford in shock. “I think his team hung up on us because they didn’t want us to ask that question,” one of the show’s producers told the hosts. Pearson expressed her fear that they had angered the singer, saying she had a feeling the question wouldn’t go over well. “If you knew this was going to happen, Hayley, why didn’t you stop me asking the question?” Burford asked.
This interview is just one of several instances in which Urban avoided discussing his wife, and he shared a solid reason for that in 2024. When speaking with The Times, the singer bristled at a line of questioning regarding Kidman and shut down his interviewer, Ed Potton. “I just don’t want to give you guys a headline about my wife, Ed,” he explained.
Urban and Kidman Celebrated Their 19th Anniversary in June 2025

Prioritizing privacy and letting his wife speak for herself in the press is clearly working for Urban, who just celebrated his 19th wedding anniversary in June 2025. Their relationship survived an intervention and rehab stint for Urban early on, and the couple have two children together. He may not be willing to answer touchy interview questions about his wife, but Urban hasn’t been shy about sharing his love for her, such as when Kidman won the AFI Lifetime Achievement award in 2024.
“I felt a bit like I was meeting a real life princess,” Urban said of his first interaction with Kidman in 2005. Although he did manage to get her phone number, the singer said it took him a week to work up the courage to call her. “I couldn’t stretch that to think that this extraordinary woman would ever see anything in a guy like me,” he said. Of course, Kidman clearly saw plenty in the “I Told You So” singer, and the two tied the knot a year after meeting.
