Kacey Musgraves Teases Return to Country Roots

Kacey Musgraves has been making waves online after it was announced that she signed with Lost Highway Records. Many praised the singer’s decision to “come back home,” following the label’s recent relaunch. The move was made as an effort to embrace artists and their traditional sounds, with Musgraves paving the way for others to join and start their musical journey under their own beliefs. 

The iconic moment was widely embraced by fans, as it marked a “full circle” moment for the “Merry Go ‘Round” singer. Musgraves was the first artist to sign with Lost Highway in 2011 before it merged with Mercury Nashville a year later.

To celebrate her return, Musgraves released a cover version of “Lost Highway” by Leon Payne, sparking excitement among fans about what was to come. Some speculated whether this move signaled a return to her country roots, similar to when she first signed with the label and released “Same Trailer Different Park.”

A New Era For Kacey Musgraves

Musgraves has long been known for blending genres and seamlessly merging vocals and lyrics, creating a unique sound. This was evident in her album “Star-Crossed,” an introspective exploration of hardship and personal change following her divorce. The album was nominated for Best Country Song and Best Country Solo Performance by the Grammy Awards for her song, “Camera Roll.”

It was followed by the major hit “Deeper Well,” which became her biggest debut sale in just one week, topping five Billboard charts and winning a Grammy Award for Best Country Song for her track, “The Architect.” Predominantly described as country folk, the album was also linked to elements of soft pop and rock.

However, Musgraves made it clear that she was ready to return and embrace her country roots again, signaling this was a “new era” in her career, but made it clear she never left.

“Musgraves is returning to the newly relaunched Lost Highway Records as the famed country label’s first signee,” The Hollywood Reporter wrote. “The move is a logical fit for Musgraves, who’s spent much of her career unafraid of going against the grain of how the Nashville establishment operates,” they continued.

‘Deeper Well’

While there hasn’t been any official announcement regarding new music in the immediate future, fans are eagerly awaiting what comes next. Musgraves hinted that she had some tracks ready but was in no rush to release them. She explained that she was exploring her sound, aiming to create music that reflected both her personal and professional journey.

“I’ve been feeling really good playing around with some more — I want to say ‘traditional’ — but at the same time, there always has to be a modern edge there in some way,” she told THR. “There has to be a balance between tradition and future.”

Wherever Musgraves is headed, both musically and geographically, one thing is certain: her fans will follow her every step of the way.
