Country powerhouse Jelly Roll is having a huge year, and he’s taking his mom along for the ride.
It turns out Jelly’s mom, Donna DeFord, is a big Post Malone fan. And she wanted to meet him.
Jelly and Post are currently on tour together, so of course Jelly Roll made it happen, with heartwarming results.
A video posted to the Instagram account of the Jelly Roll Fan Club shows Jelly Roll and his mom just before the big moment, with Donna asking her son, “Will Post sign my CD?” Jelly replies, “Yeah, Post will sign your CD, for sure, you don’t worry about that Mom.” Donna says, “I’ve got one, and I’ve got my own felt pen! I’m ready!” Jelly called his mom’s question “the sweetest thing ever.”
Jelly then pushed Donna’s wheelchair through the halls to a backstage room where Post Malone was waiting. He immediately bent down and gave Donna a big hug. Post joked with her that Jelly Roll asked him “over and over” to meet his mom, so he finally decided to do it.
Post also gave Jelly Roll, whose real name is Jason DeFord, a warm embrace. He then sat down to sign Donna’s CD, whereupon she told him, “It’s my birthday present.”
But Post had bigger ideas for a birthday present for Jelly Roll’s mom, asking her, “Did Jason buy you a house yet?” Jelly’s mom says, “Yes, a nice one.” The trio paused for a picture, all lightheartedly making an off-color hand gesture at the camera.
Post Malone and Jelly Roll Will Spend the Summer on Tour
Post Malone and Jelly Roll will have a lot more time to bond in the coming months.
The pair have been touring nationally since April in Post’s “Big A** Stadium Tour.” That wraps up July 1 in San Francisco, California. Then after a month off, the pair will head overseas for the European leg of the tour, called “Big A** World Tour.”
Post and Jelly will hit sixteen countries in all, starting in Eastern Europe with a concert in Cluj-Napoca, Romania on August 8. Their September 7 show in London has already sold out, motivating them to add a second show there on September 8. That tour ends September 14 in Lisbon, Portugal.
Jelly Roll Focuses on Fatherhood
While Jelly Roll’s career continues to skyrocket, the singer says fatherhood is his biggest blessing.
Jelly put up a post on his Instagram account to celebrate Father’s Day. The post features a video showing him with his teenaged daughter. In the post, he wrote, “The greatest gift god has ever given me was becoming a father. All these songs I hear people write about their children are really lovey-dovey, and sometimes I felt like I was the only parent in the world who was petrified of passing my generational curses onto my kids. It scared the s*** out of me. And I didn’t think anyone had written a song about that, so to all the fathers out there who have worried that your trauma would affect your child I dedicate this to you today. Happy Father’s Day.”
Under the video, Jelly Roll’s song “My Cross” plays, with the lyrics,
“I hope to God you don’t get my addictions
Don’t deal with my demons or make my decisions
Yeah, I hope the apple falls far from the tree
And the sins of the Father stop right here with me”
Jelly Roll and his wife Bunnie have been open about pursuing IVF to have children, with Bunnie recently saying she got “the best news ever” in her IVF journey– but clarifying she’s not pregnant. In a TikTok video, Bunnie says she’s thinking about gifting a fan who can’t afford it a round of IVF. She asked her TikTok followers for advice on whether or not that was a good idea.
