Gretchen Wilson Joins Keith Urban On ‘The Road’

Grammy winner Gretchen Wilson is joining Keith Urban on “The Road!”

The “Redneck Woman” singer has signed on to join the cast of the upcoming CBS reality series hosted by Urban. “The Road” will criss-cross the country to find the next big talent.

And unlike Urban’s time as a judge on “American Idol,” this talent search will come with a twist. The new CBS singing competition will put competitors to the test as they perform as Urban’s opening act on tour.

As for Wilson, she’ll serve as a kind of a “tour manager” and coach.

According to a press release, Wilson will be “providing support and guidance to the emerging musicians as they make their way across America, ensuring the tour’s success while sharing her expertise and experiences on the road as a touring artist.”

Gretchen Wilson Calls New Role a Career Highlight

Wilson first made a splash in country music two decades ago with her debut and follow-up singles “Redneck Woman” and “Here For The Party.”

And she’s gone on to win ACM, CMA, AMA and Billboard Awards, watching her debut album “Here For The Party” achieve quintuple platinum-selling success.

But Gretchen says this new opportunity ranks right up there with all her past achievements.

“Stepping into the role of ‘tour manager’ for ‘The Road’ has allowed me to take everything I’ve learned over all my years of touring and pour it right back into these emerging musicians,” said Wilson in the press release. “Helping them sharpen their talents to capture the attention of these crowds across America, and guiding them through the real and raw grind of life on the road, has been a highlight of my career.”

‘The Road’ Teams Wilson and Urban Up With Blake Shelton

“The Road” comes with more star power than just Keith Urban and Gretchen Wilson.

Country star and “The Voice” judge Blake Shelton is executive producing the CBS talent show.

In a press release, Shelton said, ““I know a thing or two about singing competitions and what it’s like to chase a music dream and live life on tour. I’m looking forward to discovering new talent and giving them this platform.”

Shelton and his “Lucky Horseshoe Productions” partner Lee Metzger have teamed up with Taylor Sheridan and David Glasser to create the series, which they describe as a mash-up of a competition show and a docu-series.

In the same press release, co-executive producer Taylor Sheridan said, “There is a revolution taking place in country music. Building a platform with Blake for the next leaders of that revolution is an incredibly exciting venture.”

“No more shiny floors and studio audiences. This is where the rubber meets the road – literally. Get in the van, go to the next town and win the crowd. Do it enough, and you become the next leader. Simple as that,” Sheridan added.

CBS says the program will feature special performances filmed in Texas, Oklahoma and Tennessee. In fact, Urban, Wilson and Shelton visited Nashville’s Marathon Music Works and the Ryman Auditorium on March 28 and April 2 to tape episodes of “The Road.”

How to Watch “The Road”

“The Road” is set to premiere in fall 2025 on CBS and streaming on Paramount+.

A premiere date has not yet been released.
