Country great Tim McGraw hasn’t been doing much skydiving or Rocky Mountain climbing lately. But he’s on the road to recovery after multiple surgeries. And he has wife Faith Hill to thank.
“Faith has been an amazing help at keeping his mindset positive,” a source tells Closer. “She’s always so good at reminding him to focus on all he has to be grateful for, that has been huge for him as he navigates this.”
While McGraw hasn’t spelled out for fans exactly what he’s been going through, someone close to the singer tells Deadline that McGraw has had to undergo not only surgery on both knees, but also back surgery.
And those surgeries have sidelined McGraw’s plans in a big way.
Tim McGraw Cancels End of Tour & Steps Back From TV Role
The singer known for his tight t-shirts and even tighter blue jeans had to cancel remaining dates in his “Standing Room Only” tour.
An injury during that tour forced him to undergo surgery on both knees.
57-year-old McGraw also reportedly required back surgery, which forced him to pull out from his planned Netflix series about bull riding.
The series is set in the fierce, competitive world of bull riding, according to Deadline.
McGraw was set to play a legendary rodeo champion facing a life-or-death crossroads when confronted by the arrival of a fearless young rider “who challenges his ways and unearths secrets that force him to reckon with his past.”
McGraw had signed on to both star in and produce the series, which was said to be a very physically demanding role.
“He’s following all the doctor’s orders, it was tough for him to give up this role because he was really excited about it, but it was the best choice for the project,” the source related.
“He’s an executive producer on it and no one on the team wants to postpone the shoot, as much as everyone wants Tim to do it, there’s simply no way he’ll be ready to take on this kind of demanding role anytime soon.”
McGraw’s Love For Rodeo May Get Him Back on Stage
Ironically, It just might be the rodeo that gets him back on stage though.
In mid-March, McGraw put up an Instagram post saying “Feels like forever since we had a rodeo in Nashville……sure would be nice if someone fixed that!!”
Well, someone did. The first-ever Music City Rodeo hits Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena May 29-31. And guess who’s scheduled to take the stage on the last day?
McGraw is headlining the event along with Reba McEntire on day one and Jelly Roll on day two.
Faith Hill Inspires Tim McGraw to Stay Positive
As McGraw continues recovery and physical therapy, he’s finding unwavering support from his wife of 28-years, Faith Hill.
Sources close to the couple say Faith has always stood by her husband and this is no different.
Faith was instrumental in helping Tim battle alcoholism when their three children were small.
The couple share three daughters: Gracie, 27, Maggie, 26, and Audrey, 23.
“I remember a moment when I was getting out of bed and going to the liquor cabinet and taking a big shot at 8 a.m. and thinking, ‘I have to wake the kids up,’” the singer told Esquire in 2021. “I went straight to my wife and said, ‘This is where I’m at.’ McGraw admitted, “I was scared. She just grabbed me and hugged me and changed my life.”
