Great news, Dolly Parton fans! More casting has officially been revealed for the highly anticipated Broadway-bound production “Dolly: A True Original Musical.”

The biomusical, which is based on the life and career of Parton, is set to make its premiere at the Fisher Center for Performing Arts in Nashville. Staging begins July 18, with opening night scheduled for August 8. The production will run through August 31 under the direction of Tony Award winner Bartlett Sher.

Dolly Parton Heads to Nashville & Broadway

According to Playbill, newly announced cast members include John Zdrojeski as Porter Wagoner, Jacob Fishel as Sandy Gallin, Beth Malone as Judy Ogle, Danny Wolohan as Uncle Bill, and Tabitha Lawing as Little Judy Ogle. These actors join previously announced cast member Katie Rose Clarke, who appeared as Glinda in the “Wicked” Broadway production. Joining her are other Broadway stars, including Quinn Titcomb and Carrie St. Louis. All three will portray Parton at different stages of her life.

Ensemble performers have also been announced, along with swings and understudies. Among them are Peri Barnhill and Norah Nunes, who were both selected through the national “Search for Dolly” open call. Additional casting is expected to be announced in the coming weeks.

Longtime Dolly Parton Collaborators Join Music Team

Richard Dennison, who has worked with Parton since 1975, arranging her background vocals, will handle music and vocal arrangements for the musical. He will be joined by Gregg Perry, Parton’s former band leader, who will assist with music and vocal production.

Through a statement, Dennison shared his gratitude for the opportunity to work on the musical. “Having Dolly’s trust and believing in me has been such a blessing and one I don’t take for granted. Has it been hard and exhausting? Oh yes, indeed, with the endless miles on the buses and the planes, the next gig, and playing for her adoring fans. However, I am so very thankful to have been a part of Dolly’s life for all these years, and it has enriched my life beyond words.”

Fans can expect plenty of surprises throughout the show. This includes new original songs written by Parton herself, alongside some of her most iconic hits. This marks Parton’s second venture into Broadway. It follows her work on the score for the 2009 musical “9 to 5.” The show was based on the film of the same name starring Parton, Lily Tomlin, and Jane Fonda.
