This year’s tryouts for the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders featured a surprise guest judge that had both the hopefuls and country music fans THUNDERSTRUCK.
In a post on the team’s Instagram account, a carousel of photos showing this year’s judges with the caption “powerhouse panel” reveals a surprise in the second photo.

Season two of “America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders” just dropped on Netflix. And just before its debut, the squad posted a video on Instagram where DCC Director Kelli Finglass announces Kacey, calling her “my musical therapist, my friend, a friend of the Dallas Cowboys.”
Kacey doesn’t disappoint, strutting into the room decked out in a navy blue outfit with a white star on the tank top and white stars on the pants’ rear pockets. She playfully turns her back to the crowd and shimmies to show them off.
Kacey Musgraves Makes DCC Connection With Funny Video
According to American Songwriter, Kacey first caught the eye of Kelli Finglass when she posted an Instagram video of herself dancing like a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader a little less than a year ago.
In the video, the singer dances to DCC’s signature song, “Thunderstruck” by AC/DC. She uses potato chip bags as pom poms, and attempts some of the cheerleaders’ famous high kicks. In response, Finglass suggested that Kacey, “work a little bit on those kicks.”
Since then, Kacey, who is a Texas native, has had the cheerleaders serve as backup dancers during a show she performed in Dallas last November during her “Deeper Well” Tour.
In an Instagram post about the show, Kacey wrote, “They said my high kicks need a little work but other than that I have a decent shot.

The Admiration is Mutual Between DCC and Kacey Musgraves
While Kacey Musgraves may be fan-girling over the cheerleaders, the admiration is mutual.
Many of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders commented on the Instagram post about her being a judge, expressing their surprise and excitement.
Cheerleader Julissa Garcia commented, “so iconic, literally still fan girling”
Tori Skills added, “We love you @spaceykacey!! Thank you so much for coming. This was the coolest thing ever performing for you 😍🥹💕😭”
Cheerleader Kleine Powell wrote, “Consider me number 1 member of the @spaceykacey fan club 😭🤍”
And fellow DCC Reece Christinee commented, “Still speechless🥹🤍”
Director Kelli Finglass told American Songwriter, “We’ve had so much fun performing with her over the years. She honestly feels like part of our DCC family. Her energy is infectious and her style is just so fun. We knew she’d be the perfect surprise judge for this year’s final audition.”
