Burnout happens to the best of us, even talented performers like Blake Shelton. In a recent interview with People, the country music star shared that burnout sidelined him for a long time after he said goodbye to “The Voice” in 2023. “It took about a year before I even was open to the idea of, ‘What’s next?'” he explained.
Surprisingly, Shelton also shared that a fellow country singer was responsible for helping him get back in the musical saddle: Post Malone. The two collaborated on 2024’s “Somebody Pour Me a Drink,” which went on to become a huge hit. As Shelton explained, the traction the song quickly gained reignited his passion for making music, which led him back into the studio to work on his upcoming album, “For Recreational Use Only.”
Shelton and Post Malone Gave the Song a Heartwarming Debut at CMA Fest

Post Malone has had some very successful collaborations with country singers, including his two highly popular hits with Morgan Wallen. Still, him joining forces with Shelton probably wasn’t on many fans’ bingo cards for the year before the duo teased “Somebody Pour Me a Drink” in May 2024.
However, as People reported, the pair had natural chemistry when they debuted the song live at CMA Fest. Fans loved the performance, and it was clear that the two performances had a genuine mutual respect for each other. “I’m so honored to be able to call you my friend,” Post Malone told Shelton after their duet.
The Singer Achieved a New Career Milestone Post-burnout

“For Recreational Use Only” officially releases tomorrow, May 9, 2025, but it has already helped Shelton achieve a new career milestone. As the singer shared on Instagram, the album’s first single, “Texas” claimed the number-one spot on country radio.
Every number-one song is a milestone, but this one was especially important for Shelton; it was his 30th career top hit. In speaking to People about this achievement, the singer explained that he always enjoyed keeping track of country music stats for other stars. “Now to have my own chapter where I can go, ‘Man, this is my catalog and my legacy’ …It really is exciting,” he said.
