Country singer Blake Shelton may have been burned out when he left “The Voice,” but now it seems he may be gunning for Voice host Carson Daly’s gig on another show.
Shelton is busy promoting his new album “For Recreational Use Only.” But while he performed on “The Today Show” May 13, he also sat in for an absent Carson Daly. Daly was in California filming “The Voice.”
Shelton filled in for Daly on his “Today Show” segment “PopStart” and brought his sarcastic humor to the broadcast. “Today” put up a montage of clips on Instagram showing some of his funniest moments.
The clip shows Shelton sitting on the couch with hosts Savannah Guthrie, Dylan Dreyer, Jenna Bush Hager and Craig Melvin. Shelton keeps a running stream of silly comments, revealing he watched “most” of “Wicked,” and making a “hmmmm” sound when asked if he would ever return to “The Voice” as a judge.
At one point, Shelton quipped, “let’s change the music one more time” cutting to a commercial break. He also referred to Daly’s PopStart segment as “Pop Tart.” The caption of “The Today Show’s” Instagram post reads, “Looks like Blake is coming for your gig, @carsondaly. 😂 #poptart“

Carson Daly sent Blake Shelton a special surprise while he was on “The Today Show” set.
In a post showing a crew member delivering a massive bowl of fried calamari, the caption reads, “There was a very special guest at @blakeshelton‘s #CitiConcertSeries performance this morning …. an extra large order of calamari, courtesy of his friend @carsondaly! The calamari, which is a unique request that appears on Shelton’s rider, was one of the stars of the show this morning 🦑 🌟”
After sharing it with the show’s hosts, Blake took the large bowl of fried squid with him as he headed off set outside to the Today Show Plaza for his performance. He gave it a front row seat while he sang, then was reunited with the bowl of squid after his show.

Jenna Bush Hager took a moment to find out who would be featured on Blake Shelton’s “Mount Rushmore of 90’s Country Music.”
Blake named Earl Thomas Conley, Mark Colley, Paul Overstreet and Travis Tritt as the top four country artists he listened to in the 1990s.
When asked who he likes today, Shelton sarcastically replied, “Nobody!”
But then the singer backtracked and mentioned Zach Top and Ella Langley. In fact, Blake said a lot of today’s artists sound more like the music he listened to in the 90’s.
Blake Shelton Fan Gets the Surprise of Her Life on “The Today Show” Plaza
During Blake’s appearance, he got the opportunity to surprise one of his biggest fans.
“The Today Show” put up a video on Instagram showing Shelton walking down the row of barricades to hug a fan named Alexa from Pennsylvania.
According to the post, Alexa has seen the singer perform 19 times. But she had never met him in person until he came to give her a big hug.
Alexa and all of Shelton’s fans were delighted when the singer performed not just new songs from “For Recreational Use Only,” but also throwbacks to some favorites.
“The Today Show” posted a clip of Blake singing “Honey Bee” from his 2011 album “Red River Blue.” A long string of comments on the post celebrated the throwback, saying “He’s my favorite ❤️” and “Love the The Cowboy . ❤️😍” and “Voice like honey 😮💨”
