Peacock’s “Friday the 13th” prequel series, “Crystal Lake,” has found its Jason, but don’t expect to see him wearing a hockey mask just yet.
The Hollywood Reporter announced Callum Vinson, who has starred in “Long Bright River” and “The Night Agent,” has been cast to play the young Jason in the show. In addition to Vinson, Nick Cordileone, Joy Suprano, Danielle Kotch, and Phoenix Parnevik have also joined the cast in recurring roles.
‘Crystal Lake’: What We Know So Far
“Crystal Lake” is produced by A24 and stars Linda Cardellini as Pamela Voorhees, Jason’s mother. Pamela, for those not familiar with the “Friday the 13th” franchise, is responsible for the killings in the first “Friday the 13th” movie before her unkillable son Jason takes over.
For the franchise, Crystal Lake is a town, a lake, and a summer camp, and will be the setting for this series. As a child, Jason drowned in the lake. This led to his mother’s killing spree at the camp to avenge his “death.”
Jason then witnessed his mother’s decapitation by a camp counselor. This sets him off on a murder spree of his own, which haunts the area across 12 movies. Vinson is billed as a recurring guest star for “Crystal Lake,” as the series is focused on Pamela.
Other series regulars include William Catlett, Devis Kessler, Cameron Scoggins, and Gwendolyn Sundstrom. These actors will be playing characters named Levon Brooks, Briana Brooks, Dorf, and Grace, respectively. However, details about these characters and the plot of the show are being kept very quiet.
As far as the recurring characters mentioned above, Cordileone will play a character named Ralph. Suprano will be playing Rita. Kotch is playing Claudette, and Parnevik will play a character named Barry.
New Showrunner Emerges
The showrunner for “Crystal Lake” will be Brad Caleb Kane (“It: Welcome to Derry”). He joined the show in August 2024 after the exit of original writer and showrunner Bryan Fuller. In May 2024, Fuller left the show. At the time, he said A24 “decided to go a different way with the material,” The Hollywood Reporter reported.
When named the new showrunner, Kane said: “From the moment I watched Jason Voorhees squeeze a guy’s eyeball out of its socket (in glorious 3D!) at the tender age of 8 years old, I knew my creative path was someday destined to converge with The Man Behind The Mask…I couldn’t be more excited for the opportunity to contribute a chapter to this iconic franchise, particularly with such fearless partners as Peacock and A24.”
There hasn’t been an official shoot date announced yet for the Peacock series, but it should premiere sometime in 2026.
