If you thought last year’s “Tony Awards” were electric, get ready to double that voltage! The “78th Annual Tony Awards” are set to make Broadway history this Sunday, June 8, live from the dazzling Radio City Music Hall. Hosting the ceremony for the first time is Emmy, Grammy, and Tony Award winner Cynthia Erivo.
The main show will air from 8 to 11 p.m. ET on CBS and stream live on Paramount+ for those who would like to watch the show from their very own couch! The pre-show, “The Tony Awards: Act One,” hosted by Darren Criss and Renée Elise Goldsberry, kicks off early on Pluto TV at 6:40 p.m. ET. Best part of it all…it’s free!
And let’s not talk about what a talented and beautiful lineup! Alongside Erivo, presenters include Sarah Paulson, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Samuel L. Jackson, Lea Michele, and Kristin Chenoweth, to name a few. Former host Ariana DeBose returns to the stage, this time as a presenter and as a performer.
Tony Performances to Make You Gasp (and Maybe Cry)
Clear your calendar, because the stage is about to explode with energy. Audiences will be treated to performances from all five Best Musical nominees and all four Best Revival nominees. But the real cherry on top? A 10th-anniversary tribute to “Hamilton” featuring a reunion of its original cast. Miranda, Goldsberry, and DeBose are not only presenting; they’ll also perform alongside other original cast members and Tony Award winners, including Leslie Odom Jr. and Daveed Diggs.
Additional musical performances include:
- “Buena Vista Social Club”
- “Just in Time,” With Jonathan Groff
- “Maybe Happy Ending,” with Criss in his breakout Broadway role
- “Real Women Have Curves,” with triple threat Justina Machado
- “Death Becomes Her”
- “Sunset Boulevard”
- “Gypsy,” starring Audra McDonald, who could extend her own record-breaking Tony streak
Broadway Inspirational Voices, founded by Tony honoree Michael McElroy, will also take the stage for what’s expected to be a deeply moving musical moment.
New Honors, New Faces, and Major Milestones
Among the night’s special awards, Harvey Fierstein will receive lifetime achievement honors. Another standout? Actress Kara Young, poised to make history as the first Black performer to win back-to-back Tonys, potentially. Meanwhile, “English” co-stars Tala Ashe and Marjan Neshat could become the first Iranian-born actresses to win a Tony, both competing in the same category.
And let’s not forget “Lost” actor Daniel Dae Kim, who is blazing a trail as the first Asian nominee for Best Leading Actor in a Play for his role in “Yellow Face.”
Whether you’re a theater geek, a casual showgoer, or someone who’s just in it for the dazzling fashion, the “2025 Tony Awards” are shaping up to be a once-in-a-decade kind of event. From emotional tributes to high-octane performances and historic firsts, Broadway is rolling out the red carpet. This year, everyone’s invited!
So grab the popcorn (and maybe a few tissues), and get ready for a night where dreams sing, dance, and take home golden statues.
