The Tony Awards 2025 are upon us and will be an opportunity to honor Broadway’s biggest stars for their achievements. The interest surrounding this year’s awards has been massive. Could Daniel Dae Kim make history by taking home the award for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Play? Will the ever-impressive Audra McDonald secure yet another win this year?
If you’re interested in tuning in, then this is everything you need to know about the 78th Annual Tony Awards, including what time to watch it, if you can stream the show, and where it will be held.
What Time Are the Tony Awards?
The Tony Awards will be held at New York City’s Radio City Music Hall and will air live on CBS on Sunday, June 8, at 8 p.m. ET. The prestigious ceremony is expected to last for three hours. The Tony Awards can also be streamed live and on demand for Paramount+ viewers.
The host this year is “Wicked” star Cynthia Erivo, and her casting has generated a lot of excitement because she is brilliant! She is also a Tony award recipient, winning her first Tony for her performance in “The Color Purple” in 2016. The pre-award show, “The Tony Awards: Act One,” will be hosted by Darren Criss and Renée Elise Goldsberry and will begin at 6:40 p.m. ET until 8 p.m. ET when the main show starts.
What Can Viewers Expect From the Tony Awards 2025?
What else can viewers expect to see at the Tony Awards 2025? There will be memorable performances, including the cast of “Hamilton” joining together again for a performance to celebrate the play’s 10th anniversary. This is expected to be one of the highlights!
The nominations and potential wins from this evening will also be significant, as several records have been/could be set. This includes Daniel Dae Kim becoming the first Asian actor to be nominated, thanks to their performance in “Yellow Face” (and the American Theatre Wing’s Tony Awards began in 1947).
“I love the fact that we are being recognized as Asian Americans on Broadway, and I think it’s really important for where we are in our society, especially today, and yet I yearn for the day when it’s so commonplace and understood that anyone of any race or religion or gender identification can be nominated for these things,” Kim told CBS News. “I’ve always wanted to play Henry V, and you know we can always dream. And those dreams are becoming reality now.”
The most-nominated shows this year are “Maybe Happy Ending,” “Death Becomes Her,” and “Buena Vista Social Club” with ten nominations each, while “Oh, Mary!” has been nominated five times.
