Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster’s chemistry once lit up Broadway, and now it seems to be stealing the show in real life! Seven months after they officially confirmed their romance to the public, the Tony-winning duo were spotted hand-in-hand in Massachusetts this summer. Celebrating her success, Jackman cheered Foster on during her “One Night Only” performance at the Tanglewood Music Center.
A source told PEOPLE that the pair is “going strong” and has already built a “good foundation.” For fans who watched sparks fly between them in the 2022 revival of “The Music Man,” the relationship feels like a natural encore.
From Broadway Partners to Offstage Pair
Jackman, 56, and Foster, 50, first crossed paths in New York’s theater scene long before they were cast opposite each other in “The Music Man.” But it was during that delayed revival, which finally opened in 2022 after COVID-19 shutdowns, that their bond truly deepened.
“The best thing that’s happened out of this whole thing is that I’ve made a new friend, which you never anticipate,” Foster told PEOPLE during the show’s run. “We always joke that after 40, you don’t really make new friends. He’s a dream and so kind and talented and is even more generous.”
Jackman was equally effusive and seemed ot mimic the actress’s sentiments. Appearing on “Late Night with Seth Meyers,” he admitted he was intimidated to work alongside Foster at first but eventually got over the stage fright. (See what we did there!?) “I’ve watched everything she’s done, and it’s amazing.” But any nerves quickly gave way to admiration, and apparently, something more lasting.
By January of this year, the pair stopped hiding their affection and decided to go public despite their ongoing divorce battles. The couple was first spotted holding hands after a dinner in Santa Monica. Two days earlier, Jackman had supported Foster at her “Once Upon a Mattress” performance. Weeks later, she was on his arm at the opening night of From New York, with Love in Manhattan.
Hugh Jackman & Sutton Foster: Love After Loss
Both Jackman and Foster entered the relationship after major personal transitions.
Jackman split from his wife of 27 years, Deborra-Lee Furness, in September 2023. At the time, they released a joint statement calling their separation a step toward “individual growth,” adding, “Our family has been and always will be our highest priority.” Their divorce was finalized in June 2025, just weeks before Jackman was seen with Foster in Lenox.
Foster, meanwhile, filed for divorce from screenwriter Ted Griffin in October 2024 after more than a decade of marriage. The couple shares a daughter, Emily, whom Foster often mentions in interviews.
For both, the timing may have been unexpected, but insiders say the relationship feels natural.
While Jackman continues to star in big Hollywood hits such as “Deadpool” & “Wolverine,” Foster continues her run of stage projects, dominating her forte. But the two appear to be making plenty of time for each other. They’ve been spotted multiple times together in New York, Los Angeles, and now Massachusetts, trading red carpets for quiet strolls.
As far as what fans think, well , they can’t help but root for this unexpected pairing. From Broadway shows to romantic dinners in Santa Monica, Jackman and Foster’s story feels like it was written for the stage, but this time, there’s no script.
