“Southern Charm” star Venita Aspen clarified the timeline of her relationship with former co-star Jarrett “JT” Thomas—and she made it clear that it didn’t play out the way it was shown on TV.
Following an episode filmed during a cast trip to the Bahamas, Aspen took to social media to explain that she didn’t make a play for Thomas after finding out he had a girlfriend last fall.
Fans appreciated the explanation, with many admitting they had been confused by the latest episode of the Bravo reality show.
Venita Aspen Said ‘Southern Charm’ Scenes Were Shown Out of Sequence
In the February 6 “Southern Charm” episode “The Birds & the B’s”, Aspen cooked a branzino dinner for Thomas at her home in Charleston, South Carolina. During the dinner date, the two admitted they had chemistry with each other. “Am I extremely attracted to you? Yes,” Thomas told Aspen. “But, I’m just being real, I’m seeing someone.”
Fast forward to the February 27 episode, “Lost at Sea”, and Aspen was flirty with Thomas during a cast trip to the Bahamas. In a confessional, Thomas even claimed that he had to reject Aspen while they were in his hotel room.
After the “Lost at Sea” episode aired, Aspen received criticism for seemingly going for a man who had a girlfriend.
“Love Venita!! However, please stop throwing yourself at a man who you know is in a relationship. Not okay. If he wants you, let him break things off with his girlfriend,” one fan wrote on Instagram.
On March 1, Aspen posted to her Instagram story to set the timeline straight.
“Let me make something VERY CLEAR,” she wrote. “That dinner JT and I had after I made a Branzino was AFTER the Bahamas y’all as an audience saw it BEFORE. So this week’s episode is now making me look like I’m a homewrecker or when I’m not.”
“I know what I signed up for but I also will not allow the world to think I’m that woman when I’m not,” she added. “Make sure you add the screenshot to all of the Reddit threads.”
The post was shared in a thread on Reddit, where many fans agreed that the situation that was portrayed on TV seemed out of character for Aspen.
“It did seem off that Venita would do that,” one commenter wrote.
“My exact thoughts! good for her for clapping back,” added another.
Venita Aspen Previously Claimed She Briefly Dated JT Thomas
“Southern Charm” fans have still not seen the whole story. In a January 2025 interview on Access Hollywood’s “Housewives Nightcap,” Aspen stated that she dated Thomas for a brief period of time before he went Instagram official with a new girlfriend, Ali Pereless, right around the same time the “Southern Charm” trailer dropped last fall.
“Like, it was like one day like I was supposed to be going to lunch with his mom and him and, like, hang out,” Aspen shared. “The trailer drops and then you know he… falls off the face of the earth.”
In a Q&A with fans on YouTube on February 27, Thomas stayed mum about the situation. “I’m not going to answer anything about me and Venita,” he said. “I’m not going to answer anything about me and any of the of the mud, I’m not going to throw any shade.”
He added. ” I’m just going to keep it real like I always do. My mom raised me to be honest, healthy, and kind through and through. And I’m always going to live like that.”
