Shep Rose reacted to his former co-star JT “Jarrett” Thomas’ sudden exit from “Southern Charm” while the 10th season of the show was in post-production.
Speaking with E! News on November 23, Rose downplayed the impact of Thomas’ departure after two seasons on the Bravo reality show.
“I can’t believe, sorry JT, I can’t believe it’s all that newsworthy,” Rose cracked. “I mean, he’s a nice fellow. Honestly, he held Austen [Kroll] to task last season and Austen hates that. But we wouldn’t have found out certain things if it wasn’t for JT. So a little thank you to JT, but we’ve lost way bigger players in the past.”
Rose also described Thomas as “a little bizarre.” “You’ll see this season,” the “Southern Charm” OG added. “I don’t think he was right and needed to sort some things out.”
Rose admitted he was concerned about Thomas during filming. “He was very kind of erratic this season, and we all were a little worried about him, and then [Craig and I] tried to sit down and talk to him,” Rose claimed to Us Weekly, “We went fishing, and we talked to him about it, and we caught two big fish … and then he said, ‘OK, I get it.’ Later that week, he was foaming at the mouth and yelling, getting in a big fight.”
Thomas made his debut as a cast member on the 9th season of “Southern Charm” and filmed as part of the main cast for season 10.
In addition to Thomas, Rose, and Kroll, the 10th season of “Southern Charm” will feature Craig Conover, Madison LeCroy, Leva Bonaparte, Venita Aspen, Taylor Ann Green, Rodrigo Reyes, Patricia Altschul, and Whitney Sudler-Smith. Newcomers include Salley Carson, Molly O’Connell, and Ryan Albert.
JT Thomas Announced His Exit In a Surprise Instagram Post Weeks Before the Season 10 Premiere
Thomas stunned fans with a rogue Instagram post on November 8 to announce he quit “Southern Charm.” The short-lived reality star noted that he exited the show before filming all of his confessionals for season 10.
“It comes with a heavy heart to share that I have resigned from ‘Southern Charm,'” he told fans on social media. “Yesterday I informed Bravo that I will not be participating in the 2-3 remaining green room interviews remaining before szn airs 12/5 (I’ve done about ~9 thus far leading up to today) and that I no longer wish to participate in any ways moving forward with the TV show.”
Thomas did not elaborate on why he left the show, instead cryptically writing, “I will leave it at that while I work on next steps to recover both physically and mentally from what has been an extremely challenging & exhausting year.”
When the “Southern Charm” season 10 trailer was released by Bravo on October 28, Thomas’ close relationship with co-star Venita Aspen was teased as possibly turning romantic. Soon after, Thomas went Instagram official with a new girlfriend, Ali Pereless.
In the trailer, it was also revealed that Thomas called “Southern Charm” matriarch Patricia Altschul a derogatory name behind her back. “He will be the [expletive] when I am done with him,” cast member Madison LeCroy said in the teaser.
Madison LeCroy Still Plans to Confront JT Thomas
LeCroy has not hidden her contempt for Thomas. In an Instagram screenshot posted by Comments by Bravo, she responded to a fan who expressed happiness that JT was back for season 10. “Said no one ever,” LeCroy wrote.
LeCroy noted that Thomas’ exit did not come as a shock to her. “I think he quit about five times during our season, so I was not surprised,” she told Us. “We’ll see if he actually means it. I have no desire to get him back. … I think he definitely [angered] the wrong people and he couldn’t take the heat.”
Speaking with Decider in November 2024, LeCroy said she still plans to call out Thomas at the “Southern Charm” reunion when it films early next year. “I think I’ll still be able to confront him at the reunion,” she said. “He signed a contract. He’s not going anywhere.”
