“Southern Charm” star Craig Conover’s injured pinky seems to be front and center in his confessionals this season. So, what happened to Conover’s pinky finger to make it appear permanently bent?
Craig Conover Injured His Pinky Finger All the Way Back in Season 5

In season 5 of “Southern Charm,” Conover severely injured his pinky finger while attempting to cut through drywall with a butter knife. The incident resulted in the Sewing Down South founder severing two tendons in his pinky finger, which required surgery, resulting in him being required to wear a claw-like device on his hand for a significant portion of the season.
But if Conover had the surgery, why would his pinky appear permanently bent? According to the Mayo Clinic, tendons are robust cords that connect muscles to bones, facilitating movement. When tendons are severed, they disrupt the connections, which can lead to functional impairments. In Conover’s case, his pinky finger being bent indicates he had complications following his tendon damage, even after undergoing surgery.
While Conover’s injury seems permanent, it does not appear to be holding him back. Despite his recent headline-making split from “Summer House” star Paige DeSorbo, he is keeping things positive.
In a recent Instagram post, the “Southern Charm” star shared a few words of wisdom with his 1.1 million followers.
“Daily tip: Surround yourself with those who inspire you, not those who tear you down,” he captioned a post-workout selfie. “Your only competition is who you were last week. Focus on beating that person.”
“Southern Charm” Fans Notice Another Interesting Thing About Conover’s Hand
For several seasons, eagle-eyed “Southern Charm” fans also noticed something peculiar about another finger on Conover’s hands—a single blue painted nail.
In a preview of season 9, episode 3—which aired all the way back in 2019—of “Southern Charm,” Conover explains to his co-star Shep Rose during a mani/pedi session, “I do light blue on this finger, and then clear [polish] on my toes.”
The meaning behind the blue nail is Conover’s way of showing his support for The New York Center for Children, which partners with the Polished Man campaign to raise awareness for child abuse victims.
The Polished Man website explains why supporters of the campaign are encouraged to use nail polish: “A single painted nail is a striking statement and powerful conversation starter. More people talking about Polished Man and what it stands for means more funds raised for trauma prevention and recovery.”
