After more than two decades of calling it home, Andy Cohen has officially passed the keys to his stunning West Village duplex to new owners. Emmy-winning playwright and screenwriter Danny Strong and his partner, actor and producer Caitlin Mehner, closed on Cohen’s longtime penthouse at 2 Horatio Street for the full $12 million asking price on June 26, according to the New York Post. The transaction represents the end of an era for the Bravo executive, who spent over 20 years transforming the space into his personal sanctuary.
Strong, whose musical “Chess” heads to Broadway this fall, expressed his excitement about the purchase. “Andy’s apartment is my dream home. We are so excited to be moving there,” he told the Post. The couple, who are new parents to a 7-month-old daughter, cited their need for additional space to accommodate their growing family as the primary motivation for the move.
The 3,500-square-foot co-op represents a masterwork of creative renovation, originally assembled by Cohen through the strategic acquisition of four separate units within the prewar Bing & Bing-designed building. Cohen initially purchased the ground-floor unit in 2003 before gradually incorporating three adjacent spaces to create his dream home, according to Elle Decor.
Working with architect Gordon Kahn and interior designer Eric Hughes, Cohen transformed the compartmentalized layout into a flowing, entertainment-ready space that became legendary among his celebrity friends. The renovation’s centerpiece features a spectacular custom staircase crafted from glass, walnut, and steel that connects the duplex’s two levels.
Entertainment at Its Finest
The residence showcases Cohen’s flair for hosting with its built-in gold-tiled bar, multiple entertaining areas, and dramatic design elements that reflect his vibrant personality. “The light in this apartment is phenomenal, and the views are just sick,” Cohen shared with Elle Decor during a 2017 feature, highlighting the corner unit’s 25 windows that offer spectacular vistas of Manhattan landmarks, including the Empire State and Chrysler buildings.
The home’s entertainment credentials are well-established, having hosted Cohen’s annual Christmas parties for up to 90 guests and serving as a regular gathering spot for his celebrity neighbors, including Anderson Cooper, John Benjamin Hickey, Joe Mantello, and Sarah Jessica Parker. The space was specifically designed to accommodate both intimate gatherings and larger celebrations.
Notable features include two wood-burning fireplaces, a chef’s kitchen with cobalt blue cabinetry, and a powder room that real estate broker Ryan Serhant declared his “favorite powder room of all time.” The space is wrapped in cherry-themed gold wallpaper and features luxurious marble flooring, according to Realtor.com.
Luxury Living Details
The duplex’s upper level houses the primary suite, complete with a custom dressing room, corner bathroom with teak soaking tub, and marble steam shower. The main bathroom offers wall-to-wall marble finishes and views of the Empire State Building, creating a spa-like retreat within the home.
Additional amenities include a home office that doubles as a potential fifth bedroom, a nanny’s room, and custom millwork throughout. The property overlooks Jackson Square Park and provides residents with 24/7 door attendants and premium building amenities.
Serhant, who handled the listing alongside Donna Strugatz, called the property “one of those treasures that you wait your whole career for” when speaking to The New York Times. Cohen initially priced the listing at $14 million when it hit the market in September 2024, but reduced the price by $2 million earlier this year to secure the sale.
Cohen’s desire for outdoor space motivated his decision to sell, which he found in his new $18.21 million penthouse purchase, also in the West Village.
“Outdoor space was the decision! I always have coveted outdoor space,” Cohen told People. “There is a dearth of inventory in the West Village with outdoor space, so when I found something that was meaningful enough for me to leave my dream apartment … that’s what it took.”
Interestingly, Strong is simultaneously selling his current residence at 299 West 12th Street—the same building where Cohen purchased his new penthouse, creating a unique real estate shuffle between the two entertainment industry figures.
