Kristin Cavallari’s love life is back in the spotlight after she spilled details about a “deep” fling with a retired NHL star. On her “Let’s Be Honest” podcast, Cavallari didn’t hold back and revealed that the “mystery man” was former Philadelphia Flyers center Nate Thompson.
Thompson, 40, quickly responded on his own “Energy Line” podcast, confirming their short-lived romance. But what fans may not know is that Thompson has a dating history that includes Real Housewives royalty and an HGTV icon.
Kristin Cavallari and Nate Thompson’s Brief Connection
During a recent episode of her podcast, Cavallari revealed that she and Thompson hit it off last year. She said they shared a whirlwind bond that included New Year’s in Nashville. Just hours after the episode was posted, Thompson addressed the “Laguna Beach” alum’s claims.
“It’s OK! It’s fine. I mean, I knew it was only a matter of time before things became public. That’s her world; that’s what she does,” Thompson explained on his podcast.
He described Cavallari as “a really, really good person” and “a great mom,” noting that they both have single-parent status, which gave them some common ground. Cavallari shares three kids with ex Jay Cutler, while Thompson has a son.
He blamed distance (he’s not based in Nashville) and timing for keeping things casual, but he praised her hustle and authenticity.
“We had a connection in the short time that [we] talked or hung out,” he added, while clarifying she was never his girlfriend.
A ‘Real Housewives’ Romance With Bethenny Frankel
BravoHis brief connection with Cavallari is not Thompson’s first experience with a reality star, though. Thompson’s charm once caught the eye of “Real Housewives of New York City” star Bethenny Frankel.
She was spotted with Thompson during the filming of season 9 when he played with the Ottawa Senators. Their fling was brief, though, taking place during her messy divorce from Jason Hoppy.
During the emotional reunion that season, Frankel confirmed that she had rekindled her romance with businessman Dennis Shields (who tragically passed away in 2018). She explained that she had a “guarded nature,” and Shields was able to break through her walls, which was something Thompson didn’t have the time to do because of his “insane” schedule as a professional athlete.
Nate Thompson Also Dated HGTV Star Christina Haack
Back in 2017, Thompson skated into Christina Haack’s world when she was known as “Flip or Flop” star Christina El Moussa. According to E! News, not long after her split from Tarek El Moussa, she dated Thompson for about a month after they met at a charity event.
Spotted at a Lady Ducks fashion show and a hockey game, their budding romance surprised fans. Especially since Haack’s rep had downplayed dating rumors post-Gary Anderson breakup.
Both divorced parents, they seemed like a natural fit. But it fizzled fast. Haack’s rep called them “just friends,” even though the public moments hinted at something more.
