Craig Conover says viewers only see part of the story on “Southern Charm.”
On February 22, Conover was a guest speaker at the Philly Home and Garden Show in Oaks, PA and he answered fan questions about his life both on and off the show. At one point, the South Carolina-based businessman was asked if there were things that weren’t shown on the show that he wished viewers could see.
“The problem is all of our sweet stuff isn’t shown,” Conover replied. “They only have 42 minutes. I’m in front of the camera, not behind it, and I don’t know how to do that stuff. But of course, there’s always going to be stuff like, the sweeter moments, the nicer stuff that I wish people got to see. Because sometimes it looks like we’re just yelling at each other all of the time and people are like ‘Why are these people even hanging out if they don’t like each other?’”
“I promise you, it’s a lot of fun,” he added. “You know, a scene takes like two hours to film. There’s a lot of laughing and stuff.”
Craig Conover Said a Major Part of His Life Wasn’t Shown During Season 10

The 10th season of “Southern Charm” has featured a lot of tension between Conover and his longtime friend Austen Kroll. He also butted heads with co-star JT Thomas. Fans also saw his relationship with his now-ex-girlfriend Paige DeSorbo begin to crack.
Conover told fans that a lot was missed during filming.
“You know, you didn’t get to see a lot of stuff,” he revealed during the Q&A. “I was in Nashville filming this season, the entire season. Shep was out there with me opening my store. Of course, they don’t even let you know that I was in Nashville at all. I was in Nashville and Portland for most of filming.”
On June 16 and 16, 2024—smack in the middle of “Southern Charm” filming—Conover hosted a two-day grand opening event for his new Sewing Down South store in Nashville, according to BravoTV.com.
Craig Conover Said Austen Kroll & Shep Rose Are Like ‘Brothers’ to Him Off-Camera

Conover shared something else viewers won’t see on camera: His recent attempts to revive the “Pillows and Beer” podcast he co-hosted with Kroll. During season 10, viewers saw the longtime friends argue over the future of their podcast. DeSorbo even advised Conover to drop Kroll from it.
“I actually sent a text two days ago to our podcast producer and partner and Austen saying, ‘Hey guys I’d be down to do one episode a week,’” Conover revealed during the Q&A. “And Austen responded, he was like ‘I would be down to do that too, as long as we’re patient with each other if one of us has to miss a week or two once in a while.’”
Conover smiled as he noted, “Yeah, this is why…we’re just too different to work together.”
He noted that with their bar businesses in New York and Charleston, he and Kroll have operators who run things. “And Austen and I are working on our friendship,” he added. “Filming is an intense process, and everyone handles it in a different way. I just hope he starts to work on himself more instead of worrying about what I’m doing all the time.”
Despite the issues, Conover told fans that Kroll and fellow co-star Shep Rose are like “brothers” to him. “The show really ties us together and Charleston is such a small world and Austen and I have so much love for each other,” he shared. “My relationship with Shep is actually like a brother that you only see on Christmas. And for three days you’re like best friends and on the fourth day you get in a massive fight. … Shep and I have accepted exactly who each other are. We’re total opposites in almost everything and we’ve accepted that.”
