“Below Deck Down Under” star Captain Jason Chambers opened up about a recent health diagnosis he received in a December 16 Instagram post where he shared what fans can do to avoid facing a similar fate.
“Update on the biopsy I had, it came back with melanoma,” Captain Jason said in the video post. “But I’m in Australia [now], and that was done in Bali, and the Australian doctors here weren’t happy with what the indications told them to go to Stage 2, which would be to cut out a bigger section and test the glands. So I’m waiting for the specimen to come from Bali, so it’ll be here this week, but I may not get it until after Christmas. So it’s a bit of a wait, fingers crossed.”
Captain Jason Chambers Encourages Fans to Wear Sunscreen
While Captain Jason sits through the “anxious wait” while his Australian doctors do additional tests to determine his best course of action to avoiding additional health complications, the Bravo star advised fans to do their best to protect their skin. He also added in his caption that “early detection is the key.”
“Look, Australia, two out of three people suffer from melanoma. It’s a big thing. We’ve got a heat wave coming this Summer, so make sure you put a hat on. I never used to wear sunscreen when I was on the boat, I used to put zinc on my nose [but that was it]. The reason being the chemicals, but there’s so many products out there that are chemical-free now, which is great. So make sure you throw on some sunscreen, get some shade, and cover yourself up. And enjoy your day out in the sun,” Captain Jason added in his video while rubbing sunscreen into his arms and putting on a brimmed hat to protect his face.
“Praying for good results,” Captain Sandy Yawn commented.
“Putting it out in the universe, that you are cancer free Captain! 🙏🏻 💝 Keep thinking positive!” another user shared.
“Any form of cancer is scary. Hoping for good news coming up for you,” a third fan wrote.
Captain Jason responded to another user who commented, “Bunch of BS the sun does not directly cause sun damage (unless you over exposed your self brutally) chemicals and toxins do… get lots of opinions before ya do.” He wrote back to them, “Can you read my message, it’s about balance and I’m sure there are other factors along the way, diet, lifestyle and aging. I agree sun is a requirement for us, however I’m also going to be better in terms of limiting exposure.”
