Brittany Cartwright Reveals Jax Taylor’s Text Response to Divorce Filing

Brittany Cartwright is revealing how Jax Taylor reacted after she filed for divorce—and it wasn’t the explosive confrontation fans may have expected.

During an episode of “The Valley After Show,” Cartwright discussed the moment her estranged husband received the papers, just days after completing a 30-day rehab program. According to the Bravo star, Jax was caught off guard, but his response was surprisingly calm.

Unexpected Response

“I think he texted me something like, ‘Wow. Divorce, huh? I guess I saw it coming.’ Something like that,” Cartwright said. “Like, it wasn’t mean, it wasn’t aggressive, like I was thinking it was gonna be.”

Cartwright, who filed to end the marriage in August 2024, admitted she may not have responded at all. “I probably didn’t say anything,” she told Lala Kent. “Like, I don’t know. What would I say? … ‘Cause I’m not sorry, you know?”

On the same episode, Taylor offered his perspective, admitting he saw divorce on the horizon—but not the way it played out.

Caught Off Guard

“I mean, I would’ve filed if she didn’t, but I was just shocked how it came about,” Taylor said, explaining that he felt “blindsided” by the timing. “It’s already hard enough going through something like this. But then, just to put it on national television as well, that’s when I was like, ‘Wow, she’s playing dirty.’”

Taylor also claimed he had hoped for a more amicable approach. “I’d ‘propositioned’ Brittany to ‘just mediate’ their legal separation,” he said. “And she said, ‘F–k no, I’m gonna get divorced.’”

Initially, Taylor chose not to retain legal counsel, citing a long-standing promise Cartwright had made. “Brittany always told me, ‘No matter what happens in life, I’ll never take your son away from you.’ … I’m like, OK, well, then I guess I don’t need to get a lawyer,” he explained.

Taylor eventually submitted his own divorce paperwork—but it didn’t go smoothly. “Well, I did it all wrong,” he admitted. “And then she yelled at me for it and made fun of me about it.”

Cartwright confirmed his filing mistakes, saying, “He checked that we were never legally married, and he checked that our separation date was the day that he went in to file the papers. So, he was already in, like, contempt of court or whatever it was because he did the paperwork wrong. So, he had to hire somebody to come in and fix it.”

Despite the tension, Taylor admitted both parties ultimately agreed the split was necessary. “How this played out was very… I don’t really have any words. It’s a sucky situation,” he said. “But it needed to happen. … It was time.”

As of March 2025, Cartwright said the divorce was not yet finalized. “We still don’t know when it’s going to be finalized,” she shared on her podcast. “Hopefully it won’t be much longer.”
