Arnold Schwarzenegger stopped by “Watch What Happens Live” on Monday night, where the legendary actor opened up about the most lucrative role of his career—and it wasn’t what most fans would expect.
During a round of rapid-fire questions, host Andy Cohen asked, “What film earned the biggest paycheck and how much was it?” Without hesitation, Schwarzenegger responded, “Well, number one, it was ‘Twins.’”
No Salary, No Problem: The Deal That Made Millions
The 1988 comedy, in which Schwarzenegger starred opposite Danny DeVito, became a box office hit. But according to the action star, it wasn’t his upfront salary that made it so profitable—it was his share of the film’s success on the back end.
“We got no money, no salary—but we had ownership,” Schwarzenegger explained. “And it was fantastic. We went all the way to the bank with that one.”
Cohen, surprised by the answer, asked for more details. “Did you make more than $20 million on that one?”
“Oh yeah. Much more,” Schwarzenegger replied.
“More than $40 million?” Cohen pressed.
“It was more than that,” the actor confirmed. “It was more than in any movie I’ve ever made. Let’s just put it that way.”
What Happened to “Twins 2”?
The conversation then turned to whether there was ever a sequel in the works.
“Did you have ownership in ‘Twins 2’?” Cohen asked.
“Uh, we don’t have ‘Twins 2,’” Schwarzenegger replied.
In the clip, he confirmed that a follow-up film titled “Triplets” had been planned, but was shelved due to a tragic loss. “It was not done because the director, Ivan Reitman, passed away just before we wanted to start shooting the movie.”
When asked who was cast as the third sibling, Schwarzenegger revealed: “Eddie Murphy.”
“That would have been great,” Cohen responded, clearly disappointed the project never came to life.
Despite the missed opportunity for a sequel, Schwarzenegger has remained active in both film and television. Most recently, he’s taken on a mix of dramatic and comedic roles, including Netflix’s action-comedy series “FUBAR.”
