Andy Cohen brought a touch of reality TV fame to the fictional world of “Sex and the City” when he appeared in Thursday’s episode of “And Just Like That.” The Bravo executive made a brief but memorable appearance, providing a light moment during an otherwise emotional episode.
Cohen’s surprise cameo occurred during a tense episode where Carrie Bradshaw, played by Sarah Jessica Parker, sought comfort after a heated fight with Aidan Shaw.
The appearance was more than just celebrity spotting. It continued Cohen’s long-standing relationship with the “Sex and the City” universe, which dates back over two decades. His presence provided familiar comfort during an episode that brought major relationship changes for the show’s main character.
Cohen appeared as Daniel, a shoe salesman who greeted Carrie like someone who had known her for years. “Hey, Carrie. I am slammed. But I’m gonna be right with you, okay?” Cohen said as he hurried past with a stack of shoeboxes. Carrie responded casually, “Oh, thanks. I’m just looking today, Daniel.”
A Two-Decade Connection
Cohen’s relationship with the “Sex and the City” franchise goes back to the original HBO series, making his latest appearance a nostalgic moment for longtime fans. Daniel is the same shoe salesman Cohen played in the season 6 episode “Let There Be Light” from 2004.
In that original appearance, Cohen’s character helped Carrie try on shoes while Charlotte was doing a volunteer exercise for the blind. The scene established Daniel as someone familiar with Carrie’s shopping habits, creating a relationship that has now lasted through both series.
However, Cohen’s history with the franchise dates back even further. The Bravo host made an earlier appearance in season 4 as a background extra in a gay nightclub scene. “You may know that I was a Barney’s shoe salesman in the last season of #SATC but were you aware I appeared in Season 4 (I think) shirtless in a gay bar standing next to Carrie Bradshaw?” Cohen wrote on Instagram in 2018.
This earlier cameo has been edited out of streaming versions. It is now only available on DVD copies of the original series, making it a true piece of Sex and the City history.
Real-Life Friendship Shows on Screen
Cohen’s appearances in the “Sex and the City” franchise are due to his genuine friendship with Sarah Jessica Parker off-camera. The two have maintained a close relationship that has extended their work together beyond the show.
Parker has been a frequent guest on Cohen’s “Watch What Happens Live,” where he often tries to get behind-the-scenes information about her character’s storylines. During a recent appearance, Cohen inquired about Carrie’s living situation and potential romantic developments with Parker.
“My theory is she likes the old place better,” Cohen said about Carrie’s unfurnished apartment, as reported by sources. When he asked about her relationship with Aidan, Parker playfully avoided the question: “My lawyer has advised me not to answer that question.”
