“Big Brother” is one of the most influential reality shows in the history of television.
Not only did it bring about consistent live reality programming to CBS, it also introduced the fans to 24/7 live streams of castmates. This allowed for a sort of intimacy no other show can match. Hardcore viewers get the chance to learn every little detail, every bit of intricacy of their favorite houseguests. Not to mention all the stuff they hate about the person.
Enter ZingBot – the only voice on “Big Brother” other than the titular character (and maybe Julie Chen-Moonves) who commands the room.
ZingBot is a “Jetsons” styled robot who speaks in a high pitched voice with a slow cadence to deliver high velocity jabs at houseguests. The sluggishness of the delivery is only exacerbated by the unusual effectiveness of the joke.
He usually arrives mid-season to everyone’s delight. In recent seasons, he’s finished off his time on camera by singing a song that is aimed at one houseguest and contains the harshest zing of the episode.
