It’s finally here — after months of powerhouse vocals, emotional backstories, and some seriously unforgettable performances, “American Idol” Season 23 wraps up tonight, Sunday, May 18. Whether you’ve been ride-or-die since auditions or just tuning in for the big finish, here’s everything you need to know to catch the live finale and see who takes the crown.
When & Where to Watch
If you’ve got cable or a digital antenna, you’re good to go. The three-hour finale airs live coast-to-coast at 8 p.m. ET on ABC (that’s 7 p.m. if you’re in the Central zone).
But if you’re like the rest of us who ditched our cable five apps ago; don’t worry, streaming’s got your back. Viewers can stream live with your TV provider login at ABC.com or with the ABC app. Hulu + Live TV offers the ability to watch live, or you can catch the full episode the next day on regular Hulu.
And lastly, apps like YouTube TV, fuboTV, and Sling TV, all offer ABC in most areas, often with free trials. Just make sure your service includes your local ABC station. If you’re outside the U.S., a VPN might help… but check your region and service first (i.e. we don’t want anyone in trouble!).
What to Expect Tonight
The Top 3 (Jamal Roberts, John Foster, and Breanna Nix) will each perform live, aiming to win America’s vote. Voting opens at the start of the show, so have your devices ready. And don’t forget about the music; viewers can expect a night packed with musical performances.
The “Idol” judges (Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie) will perform together, according to TV Insider. Guest artists set to perform include this season’s mentor, Jelly Roll, as well as the Goo Goo Dolls, Jessica Simpson, Patti LaBelle, Josh Groban, Salt-N-Pepa, Brandon Lake, Kirk Franklin, Myles Smith, and Jennifer Holliday.
A series of special duets have also been confirmed. “Gabby Samone will sing with Jennifer Holliday, Thunderstorm Artis will perform with The War and Treaty. Kolbi Jordan will duet with her mentor Patti Labelle,” per mjsbigblog.
A Winner Will Be Crowned
It’s a celebration of talent and perseverance, with each finalist bringing their unique style to the stage. Whether you’re rooting for Jamal’s soulful renditions, John’s country charm, or Breanna’s powerful vocals, tonight’s performances are sure to be memorable.
So, set your reminders, prepare your snacks, and get ready to vote. Let’s see who becomes the next “American Idol.”
