VIDEO: Scotty McCreery Gets UK Crowd Singing a Country Classic

Many people associate country music with the U.S., but “American Idol” winner Scotty McCreery proved there’s plenty of love for the genre across the pond. At a recent show in Manchester, England, McCreery covered John Denver’s “Take Me Home, Country Roads,” with some unexpected help from the crowd. In an Instagram reel from the performance, the singer holds the microphone out to the crowd, who enthusiastically sings along.

“I love singing ‘Country Roads’ with my British friends,” McCreery captioned the post. Many fans in the comments section shared their fond memories from the concert. “It was a brilliant night! Come back again soon!” one wrote. “I was there, you were amazing as always,” said another. This year’s series of UK shows represents the singer’s long-awaited return to a place that has been missing from his touring schedule for years.

McCreery got plenty of love from his UK fans, but they’ve had to wait a surprisingly long time to see him live. In an interview clip with CountryLine, McCrerry revealed when he last toured in the UK. “Super excited, it’s been too long,” he said of the then-upcoming shows. “I don’t think we’ve been over there since the [COVID-19] pandemic.”

Despite going such a long period without a live show, McCreery said his UK fans were very loyal. “Fans over there have been so great,” he said, mentioning that they keep in touch with him on social media. The mini-tour featured five concerts, including the Manchester show, a London performance, and three other major UK cities.

The Singer Thanked Fans at The End of The Tour

The “Idol” alum had a very successful tour in the UK, and he thanked fans with a special Instagram message. “To all my friends in the UK, y’all were incredible and we had the time of our lives,” McCreery wrote in the post’s caption. “Thanks for selling out the shows, singing along and hangin’ out with us.” The post included a photo highlights carousel from the shows, and all of the venues look packed with fans.

It’s way too soon to know when McCreery will return to the UK, but fans can only hope that their hometowns will be on his schedule for the next tour. In the meantime, the singer’s new EP, “Scooter & Friends,” drops July 18th for all fans to enjoy.
