On July 21, Hudson took to Instagram to share a black and white photo of Warner and a brief statement in tribute to the great actor.

“Devastated by this news,” Hudson wrote. “Truly heartbroken!”

She added, “Rest well, king.”

The comments section was flooded with fans mourning the devastating news. “This is heartbreaking.😭 So many of us grew up with him,” one person wrote.

Others noted, “Rest in peace, legend! 🕊️” and “Gone too soon.”

“This is heartbreaking for his loved ones,” another fan commented. “So so sad 😢.”

Former Co-Stars Shared Their Grief in Touching Messages

Among the celebrities who posted tributes about Warner were some of his co-stars.

His “Community” co-star Yvette Nicole Brown shared, “This loss has devastated me. 💔 I don’t have the words right now so I am repurposing these beautiful ones from my dear friend, who I adored.”

Brown continued, “This video is a glimpse of the love he would share just randomly. To have him as a friend was a blessing from God. He was one of one. I love you @malcolmjamalwar. I always have. I always will. Thank you for being a real one. Until we meet again, friend. 💔🕊️”

The actress added, “Heartfelt condolences to his wife and daughter whom he CHERISHED and his dear mom and his dad.❤️”

Longtime friend and “9-1-1” co-star Angela Bassett wrote, “When a special soul like @malcolmjamalwar leaves us far too soon, words fail to adequately describe the unimaginable grief. Malcolm was more than a gifted actor; he was a longtime friend.”

She continued, “When I met him, he was a star on the show that was TV royalty, ‘The Cosby Show.’ He warmly embraced me as a working actor who was trying to find my way. Even in his youth, Malcolm’s empathy, quiet strength, and his bright light surrounded us all.”

She noted that working with him on “9-1-1” “was a memorable full circle moment for us both.”

Bassett added, “In this life, Malcolm is what’s known as a soulful artist whose deep commitment to his craft left an impression on me that has never faded. He carried the weight of cultural legacy with grace, and he always made space for others to shine. His light will remain in our hearts always. My prayers are with you and yours. Rest in perfect peace until we meet again.”
