Luke Bryan Opens Up About COVID Battle & Push to Keep Performing

Luke Bryan is back on stage performing on his “A Country Song Came On” Tour — but while he may be dodging flying objects, he’s dealing head on with his show cancellations.

The “American Idol” judge admitted on “Taste of Country Nights” that he struggled over whether to reveal that he was battling COVID, not wanting to disappoint his fans.

“Obviously I got it, and you go through, ‘Do you let anybody know that you have it?'” the “Country Girl” singer explained.

While Bryan didn’t want to interrupt his tour for both fans and his crew’s sake, he also knew he couldn’t perform at his usual level.

Luke said fans would be asking, “What is wrong with him?” when they heard his voice. “Fans could see me really coughing hard onstage, and man, I was on every medicine trying to make myself better.”

Luke Bryan Says He Wants to Be ‘100% Every Night of My Life’

Bryan admits he couldn’t stand performing at less than his best.

“You know, that’s the really frustrating part, I want to be onstage at a hundred percent every night of my life, but that’s not really reality,” he says.

Reality was instead struggling to sing in Arkansas and offering his fans an apology and a full refund mid-show.

After that, Bryan postponed two tour stops and three festival appearances before feeling well enough to to the stage, only to be hit in the head by a thrown object at the North Dakota State Fair.

The moment was caught on a video posted on KFYR-TV’s Facebook page that has since gone viral.

Bryan was near the end of his set, performing his hit “Country Girl” when the object came flying at his head. Luke ducked, but not until after the object made contact with his right cheek.

Always a pro, Luke immediately regained his composure, continuing on with the song and even smiling and nodding to the crowd.

Luke Bryan Says He’s Still Feeling the Lingering Effects of COVID

Luke Bryan gave fans a glimpse of his recovery routine while keeping up the grueling pace of a nationwide tour.

In an Instagram video, Luke talks about eating healthy, exercising and taking vitamins. But the singer admits the effects of COVID have lingered.

According to “Taste of Country,” Bryan says he’s been struggling for weeks and is only just starting to feel back to normal.

Luke Bryan’s Tour Schedule Will Keep Him Busy in the Months Ahead

Luke Bryan’s “A Country Song Came On” Tour run through early September. But even after his last show on the tour September 6 in Biloxi, Mississippi, the singer won’t be done.

Just a few weeks later, Bryan will circle back to his “Farm Tour.

That tour brings concerts to America’s farmers, setting up stages right in the middle of the farmland in small towns throughout the country. This year, Bryan expanded that tour, bringing three shows to California farmers for the first time in May.

The “Strip It Down” singer is also returning to Mexico for his 11th annual “Crash My Playa Music Festival” in January.
