Luke Bryan Reveals The One Thing He’ll Never Do

American Idol” judge Luke Bryan is known for many things, including his catchy songs and fun dance moves. However, there’s one thing the country music star says he’ll never do on stage. “At this point, I’ll never dive into the lip-syncing world,” Bryan told Taste of Country in the summer of 2025. This declaration comes after Bryan was forced to cancel shows and has struggled to sing at his usual level due to a COVID-19 diagnosis earlier in the summer.

“You’ll always be hearing me, whether it’s a little froggy or not,” he explained. This includes during times of sickness, as long as he’s feeling well enough to take the stage. “I’ll never try to fool anybody or sing around it,” he said. This approach has worked well so far, with plenty of fans showing their support after the canceled shows and his recent return to performing.

Although Bryan didn’t initially tell fans about his illness, he eventually revealed it at a South Carolina show in July. “So when I can sing, I’m gonna sing. And when I can’t, y’all are gonna sing, alright?” Bryan said in a TikTok video from the concert. Fans in person and on social media rallied around him, showing support for the singer’s continued choice to perform.

In talking with Taste of Country, Bryan shared that the decision to reveal his health issues was complex. He knew that an illness would interrupt his tour, but was also aware that fans would be worried if he didn’t come clean about the situation. However, the most difficult part of dealing with COVID-19 was knowing he couldn’t perform like he usually does. “I want to be onstage at a hundred percent every night of my life, but that’s not really reality,” he said of his recovery journey.

The Singer Got Back to His Usual Schedule in Late Summer 2025

Although his voice wasn’t completely back to normal at the South Carolina concert, Bryan shows no signs of slowing down on the rest of his touring schedule. The singer will continue his journey around the U.S. in August and early September. His stops include the two rescheduled shows from his mid-June cancellations. Later in the month, the singer will also headline three shows as part of his annual Farm Tour.

As for Season 24 of “American Idol,” Bryan has said he’s not certain he’ll return. “‘Idol’ is kind of a year-by-year, ‘Do we do it or not?’ he told Taste of Country. For now, fans will have to wait to see who ends up at the judge’s table.
