Is there any song that Carrie Underwood doesn’t know? She’s so well-versed in every genre of music, that she’s earned a fitting nickname from fellow “American Idol” judge Luke Bryan. Find out why Underwood lives up to the moniker.
Carrie Underwood Has the Best Nickname
Underwood may be a country star, but her musical interests go well beyond that world. The “Idol” alum isn’t just a casual music fan — she seems to know the words to every song ever.
During a March 2025 interview with Country Music Television, Bryan dished on why he dubbed Underwood “country music jukebox.”
“I kinda pride myself on being like a jukebox, but she is literally a country music jukebox,” he explained. “So when I start singing something, she jumps right in, no matter whether it’s from the ’70s, ’80s, ’90s, present day. She literally is like a jukebox.”
He added, “So we’re having fun singing on the set. And Lionel [Richie] just kinda looks at us like we’re crazy.”
Carrie Underwood Shows Off Her Special Gift on ‘American Idol’
In a March Instagram post, Underwood showed off just how knowledgeable she is about all kinds of music.
“They call me ‘Jukebox Carrie!'” she wrote in the caption. The “American Idol” account responded, “Every. Single. Time!!! Can’t wait for Jukebox Carrie to keep rockin’ Sunday night!”
In the video, Richie noted, “Something that we’ve learned about Carrie — she knows every lyric to every song. I look over, she’s singing along.”
He added, “She knows every song, whether it’s pop, R&B, country. It’s amazing what she has in that old jukebox head of hers. She can even sing along with a Luke Bryan song.”
Bryan added, “I’ve always prided myself on knowing lyrics, but she’s even way better than me.”
Carrie shared, “Whatever bank is in my brain that controls music and lyrics, I feel like that dominates the most space in my brain, which leaves little space for many other things.”
During a March 5 appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” the trio of judges played a “Name That Song” game.
“Let me tell you why we thought we were going to lose [the game],” Richie said, pointing to Underwood and calling her “a jukebox.”
He explained, “She knows every song that the contestants are singing. So it’s not fair that they start singing, and she starts singing. I go, ‘Carrie, they’re competing, it’s not you! You already won.'”
Underwood said the skill comes in handy if any of the “Idol” hopefuls forget the words. “I’m like, I’m your teleprompter. I got you. I will help you,” she said.
